  • Orgasmo/Paranoia
Watched both the Italian cut and the American cut back to back. I gotta
say... I prefer the American cut. I like the added sleaze. But that's just how I roll.
Usually it's the other way around but the Italian cut is downright chaste in comparison.
This is one of Lenzi's very best films regardless of which cut you watch. It's tense
and exciting with good actors all around. Ultra sexpot Colette Descombes sorta steals
it though. Male lead Lou Castel is a little dopey looking but does sinister quite well. He's an
interesting character. Of Swedish/Irish heritage he was a militant communist to
the point of being deported from Italy at one point. I googled some current images
of him and he's almost completely toothless and looks like he's been sleeping under
bridges for 30 years. Severin's recent blu-ray is adequate. It should and could look better.
There's an annoying softness to the picture at times. Since the Italians are expert cinematographers
I doubt it was shot that way. Oh well, it's still a recommended purchase simply because you get both
cuts in decent condition plus the groovy soundtrack with one of the biggest earworms in modern history
    on it.

I love the whole damn soundtrack, not just the awesome "Just Tell Me" (which sounds eerily like beach music), that Lydia MacDonald tune that kicks it off, "Fate Had Planned It So" is boss as hell too. That is a big deal getting that soundtrack on disc finally.

Crazy Murder: an insane homeless man goes on a killing spree in NYC. Pretty well done for what it is. Gory and disgusting. A great Sunday night show for the whole family.

Great movie, until they pussy out and fuck it up with the ending. Gerard Butler rules.

            Just Married
Charming romantic comedy. I don't care what anybody says, Ashton Kutcher is hilarious and I could watch the lovely
Brittany Murphy (RIP!) read the phone book and be absolutely mesmerized. That girl had "It!" in spades. Huge loss to
            the film world.

            Freaked
Hilarious and inventive. Great movie. I miss Randy Quaid. :-(

            Harlow
Melodramatic biopic with Carroll Baker. It's shit, but entertaining. Raf Vallone steals the movie in many ways as Harlows mothers layabout Italian bum of a husband.

            Killing Hasselhoff
This was a dvd bargain bin impulse buy at the grocery store. It cost basically nothing so I figured I'd take a gamble. This movie was fucking hilarious. Exactly the
right amount of silliness and Hasselhoff gloriously sends himself up in the very best way. I could live without Ken Jeong (normally I hate the guy) but he does ok in
the leading role. Unfunny piece of shit weasel Jim Jefferies is just there as one of Jeong's buddies and Rhys Darby is priceless as the friend who loses his mind and
ends up in a mental hospital after his wife cheats on him with an underwear model. I'm upgrading this to blu-ray ASAP.

            Ruby Sparks
Very entertaining, if a little fucked up movie about a depressed writer who's latest character comes to actual life as he writes her. It doesn't totally make sense
(wouldn't she have NO free will at all except for what he writes her) but fuck it. It's a neat concept and mostly well executed. I've certainly managed to "manic pixie dream
girl" more than one woman and having it blow up in my face because they didn't live up to my deluded expectations (#Foreveralone/FML!) It's an easy trap to fall into when
meeting someone new and exciting. This movie both critiques it and uses it. It's expertly acted with a good supporting cast (Annette Bening, Antonio Banderas, Elliot Gould,
etc). Hollywood legend nepotism kid or not. Zoe Kazan is talented. She also wrote it which is even more impressive.

            The New Mutants
Watched a shitty cam-rip. This is better than expected to be honest. Still not very good though. Anya Taylor-Joy (whom I really like) hams it up with a hokey russian accent.
Besides her the cast is bland as heck. The story is nothing special. Troubled kids in a hospital undergoing therapy. All have various mutant "gifts" and the new girl is possibly the
most deadly of them all. I'm beyond burnt out on super hero movies. I can't wait for this fad to finally die out.

            • New Mutant-We braved the local theater to see this last night. Were the only people in the theater too.

I loved it. But then the Demon Bear storyline is great. Sure there are parts were stuff could have been explained more. But I enjoyed this more than most capeshit films I have seen in the past 3 years.

Aimless but very entertaining. My third time watching this. I just like it. I wish Mira Sorvino would've been in it more though.

                • Baise-moi is wildly entertaining exploitation. I feel the filmmakers did an excellent job of setting up the hopelessness of the two women's situations and was impressed with how unflinching the sex and violence that followed was. I also appreciate that it didn't overstay is welcome at just 77 minutes. The finale was handled well. Its a wild ride.

BAISE-MOI was tacky but entertaining agit-prop that was taken far too seriously at the time - an exploitation film masquerading as 'art' (if there is indeed a difference; I realise that's a false dualism in itself). However, Karen Lancaume's real life story would make a damned interesting film itself.

Raffaí«la Anderson's a fascinating character in her own right. Sad about Lancaume/Bach. Fun fact though, she was in one of José Bénazéraf's last porno's!

Created a right fuss in this part of the world before being banned. Frankly I couldn't see how, given the rules being the way they are, it got passed in the first place. Strictly a porno exploitation flick to my eyes. The art part of it is passing me by somehow.

                            Dan In Real Life
Another enjoyable Steve Carell movie. Widower and single dad of 3 daughters visiting parents and extended family meets
interesting lady in a book store and falls head over heels. Even though she's dating someone they exchange numbers. Turns
out when he gets back to the house she's there. Dating his brother. Awkwardness ensues. It's funny and well shot. I really liked
it. It's got solid actors in it. And Dane Cook.

                            • I also really like 'Attack of the Robots' - it's a hoot, but often seems underrated by Franco fans (possibly just due to the lack of sex/horror elements, I suppose). For my money, it's definitely one of the best 'light-hearted pulpy caper' type movies he ever did, and yeah, beautiful b&w photography throughout.

                              • Lipstick
Surprisingly rough and graphic rape-revenge melodrama from the 70's starring the
Hemingway sisters Margaux and Mariel in their first roles. Apparently Michael Winner
passed on directing it and Jeff Bridges was going to play Chris Sarandon's part as the
rapist before changing his mind. It's well acted and suspenseful and the finale is great
when Margaux runs around in a dress with a shotgun! Good stuff.

                                The Carpetbaggers
Thinly veiled (for legal reasons) Howard Hughes biopic starring an excellent George Peppard
in the title role of super successful but ruthless businessman Jonas Cord Jr alienating absolutely
everyone on the way to a lonely grave. It's very entertaining if a tad too long at almost 2 hrs and
30 mins. The supporting cast is also excellent with Carroll Baker, Alan Ladd, Martin Balsam and more.
Hell, even 40's film noir sex pot Audrey Totter () pops up for a small scene stealing role. Cool movie.

                                Cuties
While it's no Maladolescenza, they do sexualize these very young girls in a super creepy way. Despite
that indefensible aspect, judged purely as a cinematic work it's not terrible. But not nearly good enough to
recommend a watch. It's still sketchy stuff and worrying how the media instantly rushes to it's defense.
There is a normalization agenda at play.

                                Mayhem
This was a lot of fun. The leading dude from Walking Dead is excellent and Samara Weaving is both cool and funny
in this gory, virus induced fury, kill em all bloodbath. Director Joe Lynch does a fun cameo.

                                The Belko Experiment
Somewhat similar to Mayhem yet not. I enjoyed this too, mostly. It did feel a little like an excuse to throw as much
savagery on screen as possible. Also the ending is a little silly.

                                Deep Blue Sea 3
Way better than expected. The actors are likeable and there's some decent suspense here and there. Above average DTV.

                                Adrenalin - Fear The Rush
A nice slice of hokum from the Pyuniverse, starring Natasha Henstridge and one of the worst actors on the planet Christopher Lambert.
He's awful and looks like a cro-magnon but somehow it works (too bad he's in Epstein's black book  ). This is low budget done right.

                                Demonia
Boring Fulci effort with some fun gore here and there. It stars some blonde girl I've never heard of who walks funny. And Brett Halsey. This could've
been so much better because I dig the concept. The music sucks too, unfortunately. Why no Frizzi?? It could've saved it a bit. I did like when those
super annoying drunks went and got themselves spiked to death in the convent.
