    • Nah, I'mma trudge through them all.

      The Avengers
Speaking of sensory overload. People in spandex punching other people in spandex then teaming up to punch another dude in spandex and shiny robot alien thingy minions for what seems like an eternity. It goes on forever. Competent but utterly soulless filmmaking. More than half the budget must've been spent on RDJ and the effects. Iron Man 3 next. I've seen IM 2 but remember absolutely nothing other than Mickey Rourke being in it. I frankly don't care enough to rewatch it before IM 3.

      • Those Seagal stories are great. I really enjoyed UNDER SIEGE 1 & 2. Haven't seen HARD TO KILL since it came out on vhs.

Those Marvel movies are always at least a little entertaining to me. I have to disagree about THOR: THE DARK WORLD, though. I thought there was a lot more going on in that than in the first one. I rewatched IRON MAN 3 recently and it was far better than I remembered. I think it's IRON MAN 2 that was the real stinker.

Supposedly the underlying storyline in all the movies is going to culminate in the "INFINITY WAR" movie(s?) which I can't imagine being faithful to the comic story considering how crazy it is. I feel like GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY is probably the strongest property currently, though I do expect THOR RAGNAROK to do better than many people expect, due to the involvement of Taika Waititi.

I really enjoyed DAREDEVIL season 2 and LEGION recently. Getting ready to jump into JESSICA JONES, LUKE CAGE, and IRON FIST.

        • Seagal's crazy but so are most actors. I worked briefly in our movie business here in Sweden and I heard insane stories about actor behaviour. And these are people noone has heard of outside of this country and they still behaved like insane people. Great actors but fucking mental.

Entertaining sure but such visual onslaughts at times it gets exhausting. But maybe I'm getting old. I am looking forward to checking out Iron Man 3 since I do like Shane Black. At least there will be great dialogue if nothing else.

I tried to give Legion a chance but it's the most boring thing I've laid eyes on. Gave up after episode 4. Couldn't take the glacial pace anymore.

Had to cleanse my retinas from candy colored toy commercials so I watched:

          Island Of Death
Hoo-lee shit! Insane movie and so beautifully made. ANYTHING goes here and I couldn't believe my eyes at times. I love it! Catchy as hell music too. Get the sword! Get the sword!

          • Beauty and the Beast (Juraj Herz, 1978) - Certainty one of the most, if not the most unique take on the tried and true story and the most horror based which is hardly surprising considering that Herz (The Cremator (1968), Morgiana (1972), ect...) is the master of Czech genre films. While the storyline more or less follows the basics of the classic tale, what really separates this from other filmed versions is the look of the beast who could best be described as a humanoid bird man. Its an incredible looking get-up and despite there being numerous photos from the film online even after seeing the pictures the first reveal of the best is quite striking. The film is also a masterclass in gothic ambiance of the eastern European variety, the main setting being a castle in various stages of decay and score dominated by spine-tingling organs. Very easy to engage with as well even with the familiarly of the story and lead beauty Zdena Studenkoví¡ is just that, utterly stunning.

            The Gladiator
(Abel Ferrara, 1986) - A somewhat anonymous yet ultimately rewarding made for TV venture for Ferrara centering on a mechanic who turns vigilante after his brother is killed by a reckless driver, taking to the streets in his badass souped-up truck taking out careless drivers. Although Ferrara admitted that this was more or less a gig strictly for the paycheck and to spend two weeks in LA to get away from winter in NYC, its sort of incredible how what on the surface seems like an impersonal work for hire actually has quite a bit in common with his previous films the more its put under a microscope. Obviously with it being a TV film don't go in expecting something like Ms. 45 (1981) based on the vigilante angle, although being a Ferrara film it does go to some pretty dark psychological places with the protagonist. It should also be said that despite the plot point of safe driving, it does manage to avoid coming off like a "message" film like so many TV movies of the era it belongs to. Lots of awesome stunt action driving and crashes and a really good cast including Nancy Allen as the love interest. Well worth seeking out.

Yep, these films are my favorites among the Marvel canon so far. A lot due to RDJ. Super solid actor. Witty dialogue, lots of mindnumbing action. Decent good fun.

Now we're talking. Waay better than the first film. Great silly escapist fun. The dark elves all look really bad ass, especially the lead villain. This looks and feels like what the current Star Wars should be. I was almost expecting tie fighters to show up any second. A lot of funny stuff as well such as scenes like the Captain America cameo and this that cracked me up.

Definitely the best Marvel film I've seen yet. A shame the director of this film managed to fuck up Tí¼rdmynatyr-Genicyst so badly. Next up Captain America The Winter Soldier.

                • THE COMEDIAN - This isn't nearly as bad as reviews would have you believe, but it's not great. De Niro is funny as an aging insult comic who tries to get back on his feet after an assault at a comedy club lands him in prison. The main problem with the movie is it reminded me too much of the far superior FUNNY PEOPLE - even down to having Leslie Mann as the female lead and casting real comics as themselves. It's not a ripoff (De Niro and producer Art Linson had been working on it for years) but it just had the misfortune of coming after one of the best movies ever made about comedy. The scenes with De Niro performing at various venues are excellent and it was great seeing Harvey Keitel.
Why would anybody watch a scum show like Videodrome? Why did you watch it, Max?

Pretty neat little documentary on the Italian photo romanzi phenomenon
Killing (Satanik in France, Sadistik in America and the basis for Turkey's Kilink).
It goes into the backstory of the publisher/creator, the censorship problems they encountered,
who the actors portraying the characters were and who played the title character Killing.
This made me wanna start collecting these issues. Very cool things that aren't made anymore.

                    • Tammy and the T-Rex. Yes, really. But this was the uncut version that re-instated all of the cut gore scenes (in Italian since it was taken from an Italian television airing).

Is it good? Nope. Does the gore make it better? Very slightly. But it is fascinating to watch an uncut version of a movie that was blatantly cut down to appeal to kiddies. Same applies to Playing Dangerous (1995).

I have been on a Gary Busey binge this last year or so. I don't know why, he isn't very good haha.

A pretty good time. Neither awesome nor shit. I like Evans and ScarJo is always hot as fuck. Didn't expect Redford to be in a comic book film. Lends it a bit more class.

                          Guardians Of The Galaxy
A purple dude hires a blue dude who sends out a green chick to find an orb that has blue stuff in it. This was all the rage when it came out but I haven't seen it until now. It's all very silly but knowingly so. Good fun for what it is. I've seen a few of these things now and they are definitely better when the material is handled more tongue in cheek as it is here. The Nolan Batmans are soooo boring and up their own asses I'd rather watch paint dry. Everybody waxes on about Chris Pratt and the walking tree but I found the little raccoon fella the most endearing and cool (amazingly well done and lifelike). Had no idea it was Bradley Cooper until I read the credits. Good voice acting job. But... what kind of dirt does Zoe Saldana have on someone to still get work. I hate her.

Watching this with a blinding headache was probably not such a good idea. I felt like I was being
slowly lobotomized for 2h 30mins. Brightly colored soulless mayhem. They keep raising the stakes with
these things. Were is it all gonna end.

Best one yet. No contest. Funny, exciting and genuinely jaw dropping effects work. I haven't been this excited watching a film since I was a kid watching Honey, I Shrunk The Kids for the first time. Something very cool about those concepts. I might buy this one. I'm still smiling thinking about it.
