  • RONALDO (2015)

Documentry following one of the best football players in the world..from the people who made AMY doc.

Well..what did I learn about the man?..Not much to be honest...a few behind the scenes clips..a bit of his early life..and him going from different places to other places..
Yes.he takes his kid to school...yes he loves his family..yes he plays football...yes he has a big hiuse and lots of cars....not much deeper than that...disappointing.
Now...lets have one about Zlatan...now THAT would be interesting...

    • THE BAT (Crane Wilbur, 1959). Vincent Price and Agnes Moorehead generously both pitch their acting up to the highest balcony seats; everybody's getting the full worth of their ticket here. I think Agnes Moorehead wins the performance duel, honestly, but Price is excellent. He gets to wear a flannel shirt, and has recreated Lugosi's DEVIL BAT laboratory in his kitchen. I watched the exploitation.tv streamer; it looks fine.

        • SALO :120 DAYS OF SODOM

Never seen it before...and what a waste it was...Arty I dont mind..boring is unforgiveable..I get the story..but not the execution....and it was kind of unnerving to see Gerard Butler dishing out the violence in something like this..

          GREEN INFERNO:
Nice attempt by Eli Roth to make a modern cannibal film...ruined only lame humor and bad CGI.

          • Bulletproof Gary Busey as an action hero named McBain. Had this just had twice the budget, it would have been the most awesome film ever made. Especially as Danny Trejo and Henry Silva are among the films badguys.

Absolute camp masterpiece. Great music score too. Jim Wynorski is a genius!

More Wynorski brilliance. Very fun low budget hokum. Traci was hot as balls during this period in time. Another GREAT Chuck Cirino score. Catchy as fuck.

This first entry is really pretty bad. BUT! Entertainingly so. Rick Hill is wooden but ripped as fuck and totally fits the part. Barbie Benton looks like she can barely walk and talk at the same time without short circuiting and the final scene with the multiple Munkars is very eerie, cool and beautifully lit. Hella-rapey movie by the way.

                  • Operator

Cheap knockoff of the Halle Berry movie about a 911 operator. Here they have replaced the kidnapped child plot with Ving Rhames as an evil criminal mastermind and Luke Goss and Michael Paré as cops. I liked this one more, even though I feel CGI gunshots and blood is the height of lazy filmmaking.

I could not resist to VOD this tonight. Tremors is one of my all time favourite films, and I have the box with parts 1-4.

Val Kilmer shows up, eats a slice of cake. LL Cool J has a terrible fight scene. The script name-checks Croatoan.

                          • While revisiting Eugenie-The Story Of Her Journey Into Perversion on Blu last night I noticed more botched (as in out of focus) shots than I remembered (years since I saw it on dvd). Has Franco or anyone else touched upon this in any interviews?

There are too many for them to be a stylistic choice (sometimes even simple landscape panning shots). Manuel Merino is clearly competent since Justine and Vampyros Lesbos both look amazing. Faulty lenses perhaps (wouldn't they notice during filming)?

Production flaws aside it really is a good film. Marie Liljedahl was a flawless beauty, Maria Rohm and Jack Taylor are both excellent and Chris Lee gets some supremely juicy writing to recite which he of course does expertly. It's just a shame the botched shots really take you out of the film when they do occur.

Blue Undergrounds Blu-Ray is a big improvement over their previous dvd it goes without saying and is very much recommended.

                              • Horror Rises From the Tomb. First time I actually get a chance to finish watching it. Boy, there's a lot of things going on in this movie. It opens with medieval witch-killing ala Black Sunday then we're transported to modern day 1973 dealing with the ancestors of characters we saw earlier. Then it kind of becomes a slasher movie. Then it becomes a sort of vampire movie. Then there's zombies. The soundtrack reminds me of a 70's soap opera.

I found it interesting with some good gore but the pacing just took me out of it. Some impressive gore for 1973 but it's not my favorite Naschy flick. That honor belongs to Hunchback of the Morgue.
