  • In the Blood

Gina Carano (Whom despite being a bit.... stocky, is sexy as hell) and her husband honeymoon in Puerto Rico. They get tangled up with a local gangster (Danny Trejo), and Gina has to kick all sorts of ass to save her man. I love this kind of B-Movies. I recommend it to everyone here!

I picked up the blu-ray, though I recall the last time I saw this on video, unrated version, years ago, myself thinking how mediocre it was. It also didn't help that the picture quality wasn't that great, I'm not sure if that was due to the number of times it was rented, or just that was how it was.

Well, it's still not a great movie, but now that I can actually see what was going on, I think Death Spa is an OK time. Not worth the full asking price of the blu, but, if you can get a good deal on the price, go for it. The Blu-ray changed my feeling towards the movie, and I'm pretty sure, years from now in the future, I'll watch it again.

I enjoyed the heck out of this Nickelodeon kids flick.
Girl loses track of kid brother during trick or treating.
        Hijinks ensue. Very fun movie.

        • Evil Dead 2 (USA, 1987) [TV / Love Hotel] - 3.5/5
The GF fell asleep just conveniently when Evil Dead 2 was on TV, so I thought I'd let her rest for a little
There's some amazing camerawork in it, and of course some nice old school special effects, but at the same time it's just a bit too goofy. In my books it's more of an 80's classic than a classic movie per se. The original is a far better film.

          • CHEERLEADERS BEACH PARTY. Pretty terrible.

LE GUETTEUR / The Lookout (Michele Placido, 2012). It's no ROMANZO CRIMINALE, but I was entertained. Placido's stylin' helps hide a messy international-coproduction (France, Belgium, Italy) script and story. I'm going to blame the Belgians.

As a person who spent much of my adolescense in videostores at the height of the dodgy film era, I have seen quite a substantial number of horrendously bad films. I never expected that in 2014, while renting a Blu-Ray, to see something that moved right up on top among the worst films I have ever seen. Superman 4 level of dialogue and delivery, dodgy CGI and a usually great director and cast that are beyond horrible. Wow.

              • BAD MOON (Eric Red, 1996). If Albert Payson Terhune had written a werewolf story, it'd be this, although maybe there wouldn't be the weird incest vibe. (I like when Mariel Hemingway asks Michael Pare to park his big trailer in her back yard and eat out of her fridge, like Travelling Wilbury lyrics.) Been meaning to watch it for years, (the original DVD's out of print, but it's in a 4-pack as one side of a flipper). The Arrow in the Head commentary with Pare & Red is entertaining, too.

heh. Yeah me too. The more I think about it, the sillier it sounds.

Watched WHITE OF THE EYE region B blu-ray over at a friend's place last night. Great movie, and finally a solid presentation. I hope it shows up in a region free version. Or maybe it is time for me to go region free blu.

Was on tv last night and, even though it was the TV edit, I still enjoyed it. Solid movie!

Based on a true story danish film about the excentric travel industry billionaire Simon Spies, who loved drugs, alcohol, orgies and general shenannigans like going in naked with penis erect in a cage with an angry Gorilla and staring it into submission. The focus of the film is mostly his friendship with his lawyer, Mogens Glistrup, who wanted a 0% tax policy and was a genious with tax loopholes and later founded the extreme right wing party fremskridtspartiet in Denmark. Like a low key danish version of The Wolf of Wall street. Proof that the danes are so much cooler then the rest of us Scandinavians. And better at making films to :(

                        • THE GIRL IN BLUE (George Kaczender, 1973). Charming, mild Canadian period-piece commitment-crisis comedy of David Selby (DARK SHADOWS) not quite settling down to marry Gay Rowan (THE STARLOST), combing the Quebec end of the 401 for long-ago-glimpsed ferry-spark Maud Adams (TATTOO). The episodes of his quest are a sort of hoser picaresque, with enough maple-syrup melancholy to put me straight into a state of bliss. Features cameos by the guy who played the computer on THE STARLOST, the guy who played Garth on THE STARLOST, Mies' Starliner Towers on the Ile-des-Soeurs from SHIVERS, and a 'cuda.

POINT OF ORIGIN (Newton Thomas Sigel, 2002). Ray Liotta and a mustache and John Leguizamo investigate the Glendale serial arsonist. Fun. After I watched it, somebody set a bunch of cars on fire across the city last night, so now I'm only going to watch movies where people find lost cats. Check your garages.

                          • THE FINAL TERROR. Ewoks & shrooms, good times. Not a pretty blu-ray, but I enjoyed it. The surviving-elements transfer captures authentic feeling of watching duped VHS at a drive-in from under a blanket.

                            • OUT OF THE FURNACE. Bruce Wayne and the coward Robert Ford are brothers living out an impression of Michael Cimino's The Deer Hunter in Appalachia, up until crazy ol' millionaire hillbilly Woody Harrelson starts killing folks. Then it becomes a revenge tale for someone with nothing else to lose. Some good melodramatic moments, didn't stall out or anything. With Willem Dafoe, Forest Whitaker, Sam Shepard, and Zoe Saldana.
