  • Last night...

Psycho Shark - Very little psycho, even less shark, but it did have a bunch of bikini girls in it, albiet without any machine guns.

The Bloody Ape - this was awful but in a good way. At least it had a bloody ape in it. And nudity. Really a pretty grungy movie.

    • Jackass 3. The farting party favor/trumpet made me laugh until I cried. :)

      • I took a bash at watching Chang Cheh's Heaven & Hell (1977) last night, but bombed after about twenty minutes. I'll have another go at it after I finish writing some stuff I made a promise on. But from what I've seen thus far, I can see why it has the reputation it does! In twenty minutes I got: romantic fantasy set in Heaven, stagebound musical on Earth, and bizarre descent into Hell -- all bogged down with waaaaay too much kung fu. It might kill me to watch the rest of this one...

        • We finally got to see SWEDEN HEAVEN AND HELL! Of course, it's a brilliant piece of fantasy film-making!

Isn't it funny how 90% of the Swedish girls are really good looking and 90% of the Swedish boys look like ass?

          • Don't let Swedish boys hear you say that!

              • ANVIL: THE STORY OF ANVIL

Packaging smells like SPINAL TAP, but it's a surprisingly serious, affecting (and funny) documentary. Can metal rust? Sure, that's time at work, but with grit and a lot of polishing, you can keep it shining. (You can probably tell I'm not a metal guy, but this is so good that it wasn't til it was over that I noticed the total lack of banjo.) Really good.

Steve Kudlow lives down the street from me, close enough that we share the same beer store. That's the closest I've ever come to true metal.

                • I still need to see that.

It kind of amazes me that I haven't.

                    • Brooklyn's Finest (2009) - On the one hand, Antoine Fuqua's film is wonderfully directed and well acted. On the other hand, Fuqua finds a way to shoehorn in every single cop drama cliche he can think of within the film's 2+ hour running time. Essentially what you get is a Pulp Fiction or Magnolia-like narrative machine that chops up the familiar material into a slick new package. Thinking about the film today, I also noticed that it's a very male-centric film... the female characters are mostly sidelined as victims (either of rape and/or wood mold), although we get the obligatory prostitutes and a hateful police agent played (as a tomboy) by Ellen Barkin.

                          • Last night - the first few episodes of Dr. Who: The Seeds Of Doom, with Tom Baker and some awesome killer plant men.

                            • Yeah, I like when the killer plant man wobbles after them around the tiny generator room. Somehow it's scary.

                              • I was trying to explain to Alison last night that Dr. Who scared the shit out of me as a kid on a regular basis, sometimes with just the theme music.

As an adult it's mostly just kinda funny but I very vividly remember seeing it in my younger days and being completely freaked out and thinking Dr. Who was a bad guy for some reason. Probably the scarf.
