  • Chloe (2009) -- I really enjoyed this superb film. I used to love arthouse dramas, but I'd forgotten just how much until I watched this tonight. Just an excellent, slow-burn, mood-piece with an astoundingly lush score and gorgeous cinematography (really happy I bought it on Blu now). And I just didn't see the twist coming at all, so I guess that's indicative of how swept up in the story I became. Of course, Atom Egoyan's Canadian, right? ;)

    • Vampire Warriors (2010) -- I'd already read Ross Chen's review before I saw this one, but unfortunately for me I didn't take his advice to heart. Though Chin Siu Ho and Yuen Wah are back together again, in a vampire film, it's clearly no Mr. Vampire. Imagine Buffy the Vampire Slayer crossed with Twilight and Kung Fu Hustle...then forget.

      • I finally watched Kung Fu Dunk (2008) today and it was supercalifrickinawesome! But then, I'm partial to Chinese comedies, Tony Ching action choreography and Charlene Choi. ;)

        • This weekend....

The Necro Files - an amazing low budget gore film with the best cop character actors ever.
The Necro Files 2 - not nearly as good as the first one, but the wacky cops are in it so it's watchable.
War Dog - squibtastic Swedish action movie with lots of exploding children in it.
Don't Go In The Basement - Brownrigg was the man.
          Rock! Shock! Pop!

          • 127 Hours - Franco really did earn that best actor nomination here.
It's not going to suck itself...

            • The Bleeding - Proof positive that at this point in his career, Michael Madsen will do anything for a paycheck.

Faster - a pretty entertaining mix of The Good, The Bad And The Ugly mixed up with Point Blank (not as good as either, but still fun). A decent revenge film, good time killer.

I'm sure I thought the same thing a few years back when I saw the trailer for Tooth & Nail (the old Foreigner song was better)!

                • Damned By Dawn - entertaining enough Aussie horror picture that's marketed as an Evil Dead style throwback. There's some truth to that but the bad CGI hurts this one even if it does have some good moments.

Abby - William Marshall was the man.

                  • I now have too much stuff to watch! I think I'll just plonk myself down on the lounge and let my head explode trying to decide...

                      • Criminey! How awesome is seeing Apocalypse "the horror, the horror" Now in 2.35 again? And in it's original theatrical cut? And in DTS Master audio? Sweet Jesus I think I have ruined my pants... :woot:

                        • Mark and I were emailing back and forth about that disc when it came out and mutually agree that the DTS-HD track makes helicopters the best thing EVER.

My little guy has never really acclimatised to our surround set-up, and loud noises scare him. He ran screaming from the living room, crying, when I snuck a little preview of disc with the "Ride of the Valkyries" scene. Poor little guy... (and that smiley is for me, as I had to play the whole thing at a "reasonable" level after that)

                            • Our surround sound set up continually freaks out our dog.

Last night? The Two Mrs. Carrolls with Bogart and Stanwyck. This movie absolutely scared the shit out of me when I saw it as a kid. It's still creepy, I was glad to be able to revisit it after not being able to remember the name of it for so long.

Going from bad to worse: I was expressly forbidden from watching a film while Dean was awake this evening (hence, all the behind the scenes review work). I popped on the trailer for Wong Jing & Tony Ching Siu Tung's Future X-Cops, with Andy Lau as a Transfromer (!), which I thought would amuse him since he loves the Sharkboy & Lavagirl movie...but no. He ran and hid right behind the lounge, peeking out fleetingly to see if the nasty-loud-scary trailer was gone yet! Dean = 2, Mike = 0.

I should buy him a "Dry your eyes, princess" mug for his next b'day!
