Last night.... Caged Heat, which is still a really loopy film (Shout!'s DVD looks good though) and A Film Unfinished, which was a documentary about Nazi propaghanda films and which, as interesting as it was, is not exactly feel good movie of the year material. Very interesting from a historical perspective though.

Bed now...but just finished revisiting Story of Ricky (for a certain review blog, so expect it soon). Actually gorier than I remember it, and also much lower budget than I remembered too! They obviously made it on a shoestring, and the wires and wire-rigs are visible everywhere. But nothing stops it being the completely berserk entertainment that it is! I learnt a few new things this time around, too: Louis Fan is son of old school kung fu star Fan Mei Shing, Johnnie To veteran Lam Suet appears briefly in a very early role and Phillip Kwok (of Five Venoms and Shaw fame) did the action choreography! Ricky also inspired Josie Ho to produce Dream Home... ;)

Now that I've seen it, here's my comparison review:
Female Prisoner # 701: Scorpion is akin to fine dining. I get a nice entre of king prawns in garlic butter served on a bed of rice, followed by a delicious lobster mornay with a fresh, crisp garden salad side-dish, rounded out with a scrumptious desert and fine coffee liquer chaser. HK/Japanese remake Sasori, on the other hand, is like sitting down and expecting all of that, but being served up a cold bag of greasy, soggy chips (french fries) and a flat can of Diet-Sprite...that is half empty and looks like someone spat in it.
Voila! Review done!
