I got the UHD of PLANES, TRAINS & AUTOMOBILES, and decided I wasn't going to read the blu-ray.com review this time. Guess I should have. It doesn't look terrible, but there is some heavy, heavy scrubbing on display here. Sounds fine, but damn. 4K was supposed to mean I didn't have to worry about DNR and shit, and I guess it doesn't.

Paramount catalogue UHDs are often bad. I hated the look of Rosemary's Baby and Trading Places. I'm very cautious about buying their product now when they're a downgrade from the blus. Even Friday the 13th Part II, which I was initially happy with because it's an improvement over the first, looks worse than the Scream Factory blu in comparisons. Saw an interview with the woman that runs the show there, quite defensive regarding DNR, along the lines of 'every 4k disc from every studio uses it to some degree'. Paramount are ham fisted twats.

One of the vintage featurettes is on the 4K disc, and it's funny to see the pan and scan upscaled footage inserted has more detail than the 4K feature haha. I bought it more for my girlfriend, and she looked at me like there was something wrong with me while I was bitching about DNR, so I'm not heartbroken, but damn. What a missed opportunity.
