  • Arrow Releasing The Warriors On UHD

    Coming in December.

THESE ARE THE ARMIES OF THE NIGHT.

In 1979, fresh from directing bare knuckle boxing movie Hard Times and supercool crime thriller The Driver, Walter Hill delivered his third stone cold classic in a row: The Warriors, a slam-bang, visually kinetic action movie that mixed a heightened comic-book sensibility with a timeless tale from ancient Greece and set them loose in the streets of modern America.

In New York the gangs outnumber the cops by 5-1. Together, they could rule the city. Gang-leader Cyrus has a dream to do just that and calls a summit. The gangs of New York gather in their thousands, Cyrus takes the stage. From somewhere in the crowd a shot rings out and Cyrus falls down dead. In the chaos that follows, a small gang from Coney Island - the Warriors - are blamed. Now everyone is out to get them. On foot, in enemy territory, can they make it through the night to get back across the city to the safety of home turf?

For all you boppers out there, for all you street people with an ear for the action... the iconic cult classic is back in a brand new 4K restoration approved by director Walter Hill. Can you dig it?

But only one is to my liking (see how polite I'm being?)! 88 have been doing a great job with their covers recently, but this style of art that Arrow are using leaves me cold.

Edit - US only. that fucking sucks, will cost a fortune to import. Will wait for a standard edition or someone in Europe to release it, although will probably be some needlessly expensive mediabook or something.

I share your pain on this one.

On the plus side though, it's at least nice that, between this and the Autralian release, the theatrical cut is now back in circulation as the default viewing option.

All of Arrow's Paramount licenses have been US only, as I gather Paramount's UK arm isn't very license friendly.

Arrow's website offers the option of the new artwork or the original artwork. I just preordered the original.

This is one of those "way too damn expensive to order up here in Canada where nobody wants affordable films" so I'll be waiting for a sale or ordering digitally (which I fucking HATE doing).

For real. Soon it's going to be back to the "$79.95 for a single film" days of VHS.
Why would anybody watch a scum show like Videodrome? Why did you watch it, Max?

Like forgetting to return a tape to Blockbuster and getting a bill for 119.95 haha.

Anyway, this is up for pre-order on amazon.ca for the low-low-low price of 65 CAD plus tax, which is only like 40 bucks CAD for each cut of the film. Dealio!

I'll wait for the standard edition. I mean they won't be that stupid to make the 4K theatrical cut a limited edition exclusive, right?
