  • Shout! Factory Releasing Cockfighter

    It's a website exclusive. Blah.

    https://www.shoutfactory.com/product...roduct_id=7820

A small-town Georgia man caught up in the illegal sport of cockfighting is the center of this action-drama from legendary producer Roger Corman.

Warren Oates (Stripes, The Wild Bunch) stars as Frank Mansfield, one of the most infamous trainers in the brutal world of cockfighting. His reputation in tatters due to his hubris, Frank becomes obsessed with making his way to the top of the game — against the wishes of his lover, Mary Elizabeth (Patricia Pearcy, The Goodbye Girl).

Featuring Richard B. Shull, Harry Dean Stanton, Ed Begley Jr., Millie Perkins, and Troy Donahue, Cockfighter is an impossible-to-resist Corman classic!

Diabolik recently had all of the Shout website exclusives for sale (alas, they're gone now) so hopefully this means they're going to be stocking them regularly.
Why would anybody watch a scum show like Videodrome? Why did you watch it, Max?

This seems like a disappointingly low-key release for a fairly legendary / oft-discussed cult film.

Are they really putting it out with zero extras? (I'm sure plenty of learned folks would love the chance to talk about it, and one prominent critic was in the process of writing a book about it the last time I looked...)

And... selling it as an "impossible-to-resist" Roger Corman "action-drama"..? Is that really a good idea on any level?

Just awful, and more reason to despise Shout Factory. There are a dozen labels that would do this film justice and it is stuck with a lazy limited edition from a lazy, uninspired label.
