I just remembered one more thing: Once on family guy they made a joke about movies having to many corporate logos at the beginning and Peter Griffith getting tricked by it. That almost happened to me with Drive.

It started off with local distributor (SF) followed by the european distributor (Icon) follwed by the american distributor (Film District) and then it had the longest possible fucking logos of both production companies. (Odd Lott and Bold Films). I swear, four fucking minutes was all animated corporate logos. This shit needs to stop.

I know the Family Guy joke you're talking about. Kind of sad that that show has become prophetic.

Avoided this one for a long time because I was scared I would be disappointed from its over-hyping.....

Loved his PUSHER movies, so I was defininitely going to watch it at some point...just wanted to let the dust settle and see it for what it was, rather than for what other people thought it was...

anyhow, I was NOT disappointed with it...in fact I liked it a lot more than I thought I would....story of course was not overly complicated, but the confidence of the director behind the camera and his stylistic choices more than made up for that....

And I did, two years later. Watched it last night, what a great movie. Dumb that it took me so long to get to it but honestly forgot about it until we watched Place Beyond The Pines the other day (also very good).

Gosling has got a really interesting screen presence. He's calm and quiet and seems like a nice guy and then he fucking kicks a guys head in like it's no big deal. Loads of style in this, great acting from everyone, a vicious, lean, effective movie. I wanted it to keep going.

The elevator scene is really amazing in this movie. So much happens in so little time, in so little space. Just inspired direction, lighting, acting, and camerawork. Oh and the music, too. Sorry I forgot music for a second.

I think that the best thing about the film was the reaction to it...so many people who thought they were going to get a straight-ahead flick with Gosling the hottie in the lead role. I thought the slow burn was amazing. Great film.

Ryan Gosling is a bit of a hipster canadian Clint Eastwood. He is so perfect for his role in this.

Refn's BRONSON is my favorite film of 2008. Hardy should've won an Oscar.

Bronson was a really great flick. Took me a couple of rounds to get into it...the books are also something if you haven't read them before

I wrote to the real Bronson in 2008 and he sent me a postcard. Mentioned several of his books. I have yet to check them out.

I still haven't caught up with Bronson but based on the strength of Drive and The Pusher trilogy, I figure I need to correct that.

I saw BRONSON at the cinema and it blew me away. I haven't watched it since, but I'll give it a wholehearted recommendation anyway. Definitely worth tracking down, Ian.
