Seems like an odd choice for Criterion to do a mediocre Jim Carrey comedy...
Why would anybody watch a scum show like Videodrome? Why did you watch it, Max?

It was a not so subtle dig at the fact that the face on the Time cover looks like Clinton.

I know. I was only kidding.

              • Chungking Express is on FilmStruck and it starts with the Criterion and Janus logos, so it is safe to assume that they've got the rights to that back. (They also now control In the Mood for Love, so they likely also have all of WKW's films he made between those two.)

Some other Criterion titles on FilmStruck (list from the Criterion Forum):
                Strike (Eisenstein) 1925
Un, Deux, Trois, Soleil (Blier) 1993
Look Back in Anger (Richardson) 1959
                The Entertainer (Richardson) 1960
Everyone Off to Jail (Berlanga) 1993
Long Live the Bride and Groom (Berlanga) 1970
                Patrimonio Nacional (Berlanga) 1980
Novio a la Vista (Berlanga) 1953
                Miracles of Thursday (Berlanga) 1957
Spirits of the Dead (Fellini, Malle, Vadim) 1968
The Outlaw and His Wife (Sjostrom)1917
The Steamroller and the Violin (Tarkovsky) 1961

                • There was a 20% off $40 code that worked for a quick stint with Criterions but those motherfuckers put an end to that shit quick. I didn't pull the trigger fast enough with the items in my cart.

                    • So is Criterion going to release THE HUMAN CONDITION? I was going to pull the trigger on the Arrow set but might hold off, if Criterion brings it out.

Btw, the online coupons for the B&N CC sale have been slim pickings this time around. It looks like I'm just going to have to haul my ass down to the brick and mortar store and try my luck in person. Unfortunately, the old sales associate who always hooked me up (even manually overriding the system to enable stacking of coupons) is no longer working there and they got some prune faced old blue hair in charge of the media department now.

Who knows. He clearly did a new on-camera interview on Saturday, but he already did a new interview for the DVD they released a few year ago. It could be for Filmstruck or, maybe (hopefully,) it was for some of the Gosha titles that they have the rights to.

Speaking of Filmstruck, apparently people outside of the US have had success in subscribing through Paypal and using a VPN.

                          • Tried to use an in-store coupon the other day for a couple Criterions and the clerk actually manually entered it in but it spit it back out. Called the manager over and I explained that I've always been able to use the printed coupon on Criterions since it doesn't explicitly say Criterions are excluded and she curtly told me that this store had closed that loophole. I just walked out empty handed. Fuck 'em, B&N is a rip off any other time other than the bi-annual Criterion sales anyway. The dolts at corporate HQ don't have a clue on how to run a retail business in light of the fierce competition from internet sales.
