Really pleased to hear that Lino Brocka's MANILLA IN THE CLAWS OF LIGHT is getting a blu ray release & that finally pinoy films are getting some love from Criterion. Hopefully, we'll see BAYAN KO & INSIANG (my fave movie from Brocka) get a release later. More Hilda Koronel is a good thing.
I'll definitely pick this up even though I already have the Savoy German blu ray (which is a bargain for the price). Criterion will use a lossless audio soundtrack which will be an improvement over the German blu ray & I'm sure a bunch of supplements as well...altho' the Savoy blu ray does have a nice "making of" documentary. Really wish MINBO NO ONNA would get an English friendly blu ray release. My fave Juzo Itami film by far. An imagined release like this turned to reality would make me do backflips.
They have a new 4K restoration that Janus Films is touring in the US, so it should be an improvement over the German Blu.
If the US rights to all of Juzo Itami films have reverted to his estate, then it wouldn't surprise me to find out that Criterion picked them all up, but, unless they are going to release them in a box set(s), it'll likely be awhile before they get to them all.
Anyone remember when it is that Barnes and Noble has their fall sale on Criterion movies? I know it's sometime around Halloween, wondering they will be starting the sale tomorrow, I might stop by the store and check it out tomorrow as I will be close to their store tomorrow. There are a lot of releases out since I last bought any Criterion films, there are at least 10 I need to get, and yeah I can't get that many without that 50% off sale lol

I was told by a sales associate that it would begin on the 1st and last until the 28th but it's been extended in the past.
ah I knew it was coming up soon. I will get by there on Tuesday then, I want to get some films before everyone buys all the good stuff haha. I have got to get Carnival of Souls for sure that's priority #1
