  • Tampopo is the only confirmed title but people pages on Criterion's site seem to indicate that they also have A Taxing Woman and Minbí´ no onna (or Daibyonin). I suspect that, as they did with the Demy films, they licensed all the Itami films that his estate controls.

I must've missed the latest clue. I'm definitely looking forward to Roma and The Asphalt Jungle.

Some people are convinced that this is for a Brewster McCloud release, but it could just be for the McCabe & Mrs. Miller Blu.

              • Bergman's SHAME was recently added to Filmstruck and it starts with the Janus Films logo. So that is another former MGM Bergman film that is now with Criterion.

                • Maybe I've missed it but have the specs for the reissue of Altman's Short Cuts been revealed yet, or is the only difference the 4K master?

                  • Extras on the SHORT CUTS Blu are the same except it no longer has "A segment from BBC television's Moving Pictures tracing the development of the screenplay" or the book of short stories (but the DVD lost the book a long time ago, so that isn't a surprise.)

Here is the DVD Beaver review of Short Cuts and for good measure, here is DVD Beaver's review of the McCabe and Mrs. Miller Blu (and if you look at the caps of the extras on the McCabe Blu, you'll see that the Michael Murphy interview they posted on instagram is not the one from this release, so, most likely, some more Altman is on tap for 2017.)

                    • Filmstruck's beta testing is done, the site launches next month, but a few new Criterion titles were added before it finished:
Bondarchuk's War and Peace and three films by Luis García Berlanga (Placido, The Rocket From Calabuch, and Miracles of Thursday)

Brewster McCloud maybe? I'm not sure what other Altman-Murphy film Criterion would be considering.

                        • From the Antonioni Archives

Today, we're celebrating iconic Italian filmmaker Michelangelo Antonioni on what would have been his 104th birthday. A pioneering force in European cinema in the sixties, Antonioni won international acclaim for his breathtaking portraits of urban alienation and ennui. Marked by enigmatic narrative structures, languid atmosphere, and haunting visual compositions, Antonioni's films continue to challenge audiences and influence contemporary filmmakers as disparate as Martin Scorsese, Michael Haneke, and Tsai Ming-liang. In honor of this master, we've gathered a selection of essays and videos that we've published that explore his legacy:
LA PASIÓN ESPAÑOL: THE EROTIC MELODRAMAS OF VICENTE ARANDA (1991-1999)

M*A*S*H, but I don't think Fox would license that one out. Maybe a new special edition and Blu-ray for Tanner '88.

Possibly COUNTDOWN? It's the only other film they worked on together.
Why would anybody watch a scum show like Videodrome? Why did you watch it, Max?

The Fox release of M*A*S*H was pretty full with extras but I'd love to see what Criterion would do with it. I never cared for Countdown so I'm hoping for Brewster McCloud if it's not M*A*S*H.
Either way, more Altman on Criterion is always a good thing.
