Heck, no. I have a soft spot for that film. It's much better than many of Woo's subsequent US pictures (M:I 2, I'm looking at you). However, I seem to recall the critical drubbing it received was pretty much relentless.

Isn't there a fan-edit kicking about on the Interwebs that tries to reconstruct the film in the non-linear style of Tarantino's screenplay, and edits the finale to conform to the downbeat ending of the script?

When I first saw Slater in HEATHERS I wanted to be him so bad, I was 12. He was also great in VERY BAD THINGS and has a bit part in the last good Trek movie THE UNDISCOVERED COUNTRY. I was probably the only one who didn't mind him in INTERVIEW WITH A VAMPIRE.

Looking at his filmography it looks like he hasn't stopped working, just lots of direct to video stuff. Looks like the biggest most recent thing he did was the tv show MR ROBOT, which he's also a producer on. And not at all looking for it but there was a bunch of recent articles saying he's doing the voice of Kylo Ren in an upcoming Disney's Star Wars Lego Halloween® thing. He's also done voice work for Rik and Morty and other crap.

It would be cool as a bonus on the BD, but I think the happy ending is what makes the film so marvelous. I think even QT admitted the ending was better the way Scott did it. That final scene is just so emotional and, corny as it sounds, happy. It's what the film needed.

Yeah, I can't imagine the film ending any other way.

The happy ending just doesn't work, but what's left of the original ending that they filmed is on the Collector's Edition DVD as an extra, filled out with some storyboards for a few shots.

It fits way better, but is insanely bleak.

They carried this over to the WB Blu as well. I hadn't watched the alternate ending since that CE DVD was new. 9 times out of 10 i like a nice bleak end to a flick. But this one has such a fairy tale vibe running through it, i think the happy ending is just perfect.

That's the thing. True Romance is only a fairy tale when Clarence is in a scene, and it is clear that reality is coming for him and the results will not be pretty. They used up three lifetimes' worth of luck just making it to LA. Catching a .44 slug with your eye socket is going to cost you more than an eye, and Tony Scott is one of the directors who was always a stickler for realistic firearms results.

The downer ending was perfectly in line with Clarence's beating at the hands of Drexel prior to him getting lucky by getting his hand on the gun, the brutal torture of Clarence's father and the fight between Alabama and the hitman.

Arrow are doing steelbook, deluxe and standard editions of this on UHD in June.

                  STEALING. CHEATING. KILLING.

                  WHO SAYS ROMANCE IS DEAD?

In 1993, action movie supremo Tony Scott teamed up with a hot new screenwriter named Quentin Tarantino to bring True Romance to the screen, one of the most beloved and widely-quoted films of the decade.

Elvis-worshipping comic book store employee Clarence Worley (Christian Slater) is minding his own business at a Sonny Chiba triple bill when Alabama Whitman (Patricia Arquette) walks into his life – and from then on, the two are inseparable. Within 24 hours, they’re married and on the run after Clarence is forced to kill Alabama’s possessive, psychopathic pimp. Driving a Cadillac across the country from Detroit to Hollywood, the newlyweds plan to sell off a suitcase full of stolen drugs to fund a new life for themselves… but little do they suspect that the cops and the Mafia are closing in on them. Will they escape and make their dream of a happy ending come true?

Breathtaking action set pieces and unforgettably snappy dialogue combine with a murderers’ row of sensational performances from a stunning ensemble cast in Scott and Tarantino’s blood-soaked, bullet-riddled valentine, finally restored in dazzling 4K with hours of brilliant bonus features.

Hahaha, reminded me of the awesome foreignness in the "Favourite One-Sheets" thread.

^ That is amazingly awful. Though it does remind me i've got a pair of shades like that. Really should dig 'em out.

I bought Arrow's UHD during their sale. Unobstructed View had another edition, but were charging 13 bucks CAD for shipping. I bought 3 copies from Arrow UK direct, it came out to 53 GBP shipping...that's just shy of 85 bucks CAD. I'll take under 30 with tax and shipping, thanks, don't need the postcards. Film looks great in UHD on an 85", though it does look a little scrubbed here and there. Still awesome and a great replacement for my 5 dollar blu.

                            Fucking LOVE this flick.

I got mine from Amazon.ca. Worth it for all the extras alone, not sure I have another film with this many commentaries.

You must be from a place with currency more valuable than CAD hahaha. It's 65 bucks CAD plus 13% tax here. I like the movie, and I like the commentaries, but Ill take paying 28 CAD for it as opposed to 75 bucks.
