  • Martin Scorsese's Silence

    Trailer!

"Watch the official trailer for Martin Scorsese's new movie Silence. Starring Andrew Garfield, Adam Driver and Liam Neeson, see it in theatres December.

Martin Scorsese's SILENCE tells the story of two Christian missionaries (Andrew Garfield and Adam Driver) who face the ultimate test of faith when they travel to Japan in search of their missing mentor (Liam Neeson) - at a time when Christianity was outlawed and their presence forbidden. The celebrated director's 28-year journey to bring Shusaku Endo's 1966 acclaimed novel to life will be in theaters this Christmas."

He's wanted to make this since the 70s. The book by Endo is a masterpiece and Shinoda's adaptation from 71' is great so I didnt really see the need for this but it is great to see Scorsese returning to a really personal project again, could be his best work in a long time.

The film's been playing for some weeks already but I didn't have time to see it until today.

Not on the level of Scorsese's masterpieces of course, but very good nevertheless. The middle third is perhaps a bit slow, but the last 30 minutes is strong. Great performances by everyone, especially Issei Ogata, who is fantastic. Tsukamoto, Asano, Garfield, Neeson and Yí´suke Kubozuka (I was wondering when did this guy learn to act until I realized I had confused him with his idiot brother Shunsuke Kubozuka) all very good.

It is a heavy film, though. And very silent, especially in comparison to The Wolf of Wall Street.
