Been following the development of this somewhat since it was first announced thanks to constant updates from the great Saving Country Music. One of the more interesting things regarding the film, Hank3 was none too pleased at the casting of Hiddleston as Sr., saying that a southerner should have gotten the part, that Hiddleston has no soul in his voice. I suppose you can't fault him for having a strong opinion on the matter. It is the life story of his grandfather after all.

Personally, I don't have a dog in that particular fight with the main reason being that I probably won't watch this unless I stumble upon it on TV later on down the road. As big a deal as Hank is to me, this just looks to be like all other music biopics. More than likely it'll be hyper sentimental for "dramatic" effect and filled with lines that are meant to sound "profound" but just come across as typical Hollywood corniness. Olsen sure does look good though.

What Tom said....and I'll just add that I don't recall being impressed by a biopic, ever.

I liked Altman's movie on Van Gogh and Van Sant's Milk. Otherwise biopic tend to be pretty middle-of-the-road. Even the better ones always come off as mediocre.

Agreed. And SCM is probably the premier country music site around, IMO.

I forgot about MILK...that one was good. Music biopics focus too much on flashy performance numbers, and usually drugs drugs drugs.

The problem is that it looks like too many other recent biopics/dramas. Too much sadness and melodrama and not enough drinking/hard living.

That's not completely true, there's at least one exception.

Didn't they distance themselves from him at some point?

I really hope this does justice to the great man.
