Henenlotter will be at this Friday's screening at Anthology Film Archives - right after Olga's House of Shame! Should be a great night. By the way the Russ Meyer prints they've been screening the last couple of weeks have been in great shape.

He's doing a fair bit of press for this.

Kinda surprised they stop at 1970, though. I mean, even though hardcore was about to break out, sexploitation flicks were still going strong throughout that entire decade, stuff like "The Cheerleaders" and such.

Agree, the seventies was perhaps the greatest decade for exploitation and sexploitation (and I'm not referring to hardcore at all).

You ain't kidding, brother. Aside from GODS OF GRINDHOUSE are there any other comprehensive books out or in the works focusing on the sleaze/exploitation films from
that golden decade (again, not directly related to Hardcore)?

Oh yeah, and I love the fact that CITIZEN KANE is on the shelf right next to THE GHASTLY ONES in that picture above.

One book that covers many 70's exploitation films is FOR ONE WEEK ONLY. I have a copy of the original, which was out of print for many years. It has since been reprinted, and possibly expanded. I think Amazon sells it.

The original paperback came out in 1983, when many of the films weren't commonly available. The author wrote about some of the films from memory, so there are some errors in the text.

Eddie "Czar of Noir" Muller's book GRINDHOUSE is good, but I think it covers the fifties and sixties more than the seventies.

This is such a fun doc. I was so happy that it finally revealed the source of that mysterious footage (from the SWV intro reel) of the butchy boxer seen punching out some dude and smoking a huge cigar. It's from a 3-minute loop called WHEN A WOMAN NEEDS A MAN (currently on youtube). I remember some years back I actually called Mike Vraney and asked him about it and he thought I was talking about SHE-MOB. I always thought that was so cool that he answered the phone. I haven't even started with the bonus shorts included on the blu, but I have to say that the commentary by Henenlotter and Lisa Petrucci is worth the price of the disc alone. It's absolutely awesome.
Why would anybody watch a scum show like Videodrome? Why did you watch it, Max?
