No one will ever make movies like Doris Wishman made movies. One of the most prolific women filmmakers in the history of American cinema, writer-director-editor Wishman created collisions between surrealism and exploitation that feel like they materialized from an alternate universe. THE FILMS OF DORIS WISHMAN: THE TWILIGHT YEARS surveys the last major era of Wishman’s career. From DEADLY WEAPONS and DOUBLE AGENT 73 (crime epics starring the iconic Chesty Morgan) to LET ME DIE A WOMAN (a semi-documentary about transgender people), AGFA + Something Weird are honored to present these triumphant DIY treasures in dazzling new restorations.

    That's a pretty good selection for $50.
I'm bitter, I'm twisted, James Joyce is fucking my sister.

They nailed this set. Fuck, I'd buy it just for Disc 3.

I'll admit that I'm afraid to watch LET ME DIE A WOMAN (the sex change I witnessed when I rented SHOCKING ASIA when I was 12 is enough for a lifetime).
Why would anybody watch a scum show like Videodrome? Why did you watch it, Max?

Pre-ordered. I already have the Chesty Morgan films on blu and most of these on DVD but gotta support my girl Doris on blu plus the extras look good.

Hopefully this sells well enough that we get a volume 2 with Bad Girls Go to Hell, Nude on the Moon and A Night to Dismember (please with the original commentary!!).

Let Me Die a Woman is terrible/fascinating, too bad they didn't get the commentary from the essential Synapse release which interviews the main trans woman featured in the 'documentary.' That alone made it worth purchasing.

Oh and its a bit odd that they say that this was the 'last major era...of her career.'

Is that that erasure of her absolutely gonzo xxx films, which I consider to be as essential to her filmography as anything else she did?

So apparently THE AMAZING TRANSPLANT is going to be the same cut version as the SW DVD. It's missing 7 minutes.

Cheers, I put in an order. I assumed this would get tied up with their sale stuff and take months to arrive so glad to see it's shipping before then.

                  Mondo Digital review

So apparently Wishman made cuts to the negs herself which explains the missing footage from Amazing Transplant. It's still disappointing they didn't include the extra footage from a VHS source (either as a composite or deleted scenes) but it's not a dealbreaker given how good the set looks overall. Still worth holding on to your old Let Me Die a Woman DVDs for that commentary with Leslie, though I'm looking forward to the new Carta Monir track.

I placed an order and got a shipping notification 20 minutes later! These guys are fast, but that has to be a record.

Seen the Chesty Morgan films several times so I started with the Frank Henenlotter commentary and he is fun as usual. They should have him on ever SWV release.

Love Toy is a real gem of this set. I love the film grain here.

So two more sets are being released? Is there any word yet on the grouping? I'm assuming it would be the Nudie Cuties and the Roughies?

Seems they're doing it roughly based on era. So nudie cuties and then roughies would make sense although a whole set of nudie cuties may be a bit much even for a Wishman nut.

I do hope they include her deranged late masterpiece A Night to Dismember (which also has a great commentary featuring Doris and her cinematographer I believe).

If Nude On The Moon doesn't get a Blu-ray upgrade I quit.
