Good, glad to hear it. You originally handled POOR PRETTY EDDIE, right? Can you re-release that without the DNR?

Guess I'm easy to please as I've found Poor Pretty Eddie acceptable... but as my TV system isn't an HD one maybe it's the reason why it looked ok to me last year

That was a contract job. We don't own that master or the extras. The print used was my personal print so maybe we can rescan it at some point...

        The Vinegar Syndrome Discussion Thread

Just to give everyone a bit of an inside scoop as to how VS will work, we're planning on creating two separate lines of releases. The first will be factory pressed DVD/Blu combo packs, such as the upcoming H.G.L. collection. These releases will feature fully restored films in single, double or triple features, as well as extras (in some cases extras will be bonus related feature films sourced from sub-par elements). Titles receiving full DVD/Blu releases will be sourced almost exclusively from negatives and mint answer prints. The emphasis with these releases is to offer the highest quality restorations we can using the best available film materials.
We will also be introducing a [mostly] MOD 'Drive-In' line, which will consist entirely of themed double and triple features sourced primarily from theatrical release prints. These releases will be priced considerably lower than than the 'official' DVD/Blu combo packs and will be available as both DVD-R and Blu-R MOD discs (along the lines of Warner Archives, etc). We will also be offering digital downloads of all MOD titles via our website in 720p.
The reason for the two separate lines is simple: we have 35mm film elements for dozens and dozens or really cool and rare movies, but many are simply not up to what we feel are proper condition for a restored Blu-Ray release, so rather than not releasing them at all, we've decided that it's far more sensible to transfer them in 2K, perform some basic restoration work, and offer them in MOD double or triple features so that they're at least out there for people to see.
Additionally, many of our titles will be available in 2K DCP for theatrical screenings (and a handful will also be offered in archival 35mm prints), so if you want to see one of our titles on the big screen, talk to your local cinema and we'll be happy to oblige.

How much would digital downloads cost? And would it be possible to download extras?

Alex, right now we're thinking something in the vein of $5 a title for each download and $12-15 a disc for all the MOD double and triple features. The MOD discs will be movies only. No extras, save for an occasional trailer or something in that vein.

Digital downloads will only be titles offered as MOD discs. Anything that gets a pressed DVD/Blu release will only be available as hard media.

As for extras, do you mean extras on the DVD/Blu combo packs?

And, so everyone knows, we're still developing all of this so any feedback, questions and suggestions are strongly encouraged.

John do you plan to use the label to release some adult movies too or the project you were talking about on the maniacs board some time ago is a different matter?

Kind of unrelated but since you work with Steven too and I don't want to bother him while he is quite busy : Do you have any idea when he will start a new line with his softcore library? I can't wait to see the Joe Sarno's films they own.

Did you read my mind or just the bottom of the Kickstarter campaign ;)

I'm dying to put that one out! We have the camera negs, trailers, outtakes, etc. IT WILL HAPPEN!

Jimmy, right now Distribpix plans are as follows:
MISTY is finally coming to a close. BARBARA is in the works. That stuff needs to get done ASAP because they're licensed titles. However, we've been working on restorations right and left and have nearly half a dozen other films almost ready to go, pending the completion of extras. Steven is very much looking forward to getting some early Sarno out. It's all a matter of time and prioritizing and right now it's still 100% Metzger.

And yes, VS will be releasing some sexploitation and XXX titles. Most will be in partnership with Distribpix.

Just asking here again. I'd definitely pay to download extras if it's say a 20 minute interview or documentary or commentary.

Sorry I missed your first query.

That's not something I'd thought about, but I'll run it by my partner and get his take...Could be a possibility.

John, first let me say how excited to hear about the prospects for your new label...I'm really looking forward to seeing what you guys put out.

Second, I wanted to toss an idea at you. This is something that I'm actually surprised is not common practice among boutique DVD lines, given how frequently its done by book imprints and CD labels. Have you considered offering some kind of subscription service? I'm thinking of something along the lines of "pay $150 and get our next 6 releases (8 releases, whatever)". For the collectors it can be great if you offer little perks, like shipping before release date, limited edition packaging, exclusive extras, etc. etc. And it would seem like it could be great for the label too, insofar as it can serve the same purpose as a kickstarter campaign in gathering capital in advance of releases.

Anyway, just an idea there's been knocking around my brain...

Mostly the latter. Good to hear this is not going to get lost in the weeds. Of all the titles mentioned so far, it is numero uno for me. Thanks.
