  • I like THE IDOL but it's definitely not my favorite DeSimone film. That's CONFESSIONS OF A MALE GROUPIE. I also think his 1974 film STATION TO STATION handles adolescent homosexuality more interestingly.

I might have posted this before, but here's my primer in the 'best/most interesting' all male films, in chronological order:

    CASEY
    CONFESSIONS OF A MALE GROUPIE
    LA PLAYS ITSELF
    BIJOU
LIGHT FROM THE SECOND STORY WINDOW
    A GHOST OF A CHANCE
    DRIVE
    PASSING STRANGERS
    FORBIDDEN LETTERS
    FALCONHEAD
    DESTROYING ANGEL
    EL PASO WRECKING CORP
    LA TOOL AND DIE
    HEATSTROKE
    FALCONHEAD 2

    • I had forgotten all about "The Destroying Angel". That's a great title with some wonderful atmosphere and fine camerawork. It's too bad Peter de Rome didn't make more feature length movies.

      • Out of that list you posted John Lyons, I have only seen the one film Bijou that you have released on DVD lol, I hope you can release those others, as I would definitely like to see them, my education on classic gay porn obviously sucks haha

        • The Private Pleasures of John Holmes is not a good film. It is actually a very bad film. It is far more fun to find the females dressed as males than to watch as an actual film. I don't know if any original elements would be possible either anymore. In 1999 it was reedited into a "director's cut." It would really be a waste for VS to release this one.

          • I received my "Candy" double feature blu ray and "The Bees" blu ray today. Another outstanding job by VS.

            • glad to hear the new releases look great. I knew they would though. I'm anxious to get to watch the Candy films in HD. I really like the Bob Chinn releases that VS has put out, are there any chances of any Johnny Wadd films maybe? like Here Comes Johnny Wadd, Liquid Lips, Blonde Fire, etc., they are on DVD I know, but they look like crap, the King of porn deserves better for his films.

              • I was hoping when VS released some other films by Walt Davis that they were going to give The Danish Connection a release.

THE DANISH CONNECTION is a Manuel Conde film that they bought the rights to. Last I heard was that most of the Conde films will now be on their streaming site.

                    • watched Sex and Astrology tonight and it was a pretty weird film, I liked it though. It looked great on DVD, especially considering it says it came from a 16mm source, it was kind of psychedelic. Also watched Sensual Encounters of Every Kind, and it was good as well, a Harold Lime film, anything with Leslie Bovee, I must have haha, she was sporting even more fur than normal in this one, ah I miss that in modern porn. Great releases I had not heard of before, glad they were released in good editions. Looking forward to the March release of Blue Ice, and Pigs.

Ha! I've still got the old Dark Sky DVD sitting around somewhere, unwatched. I'll have to finally break it out to see whether it's worth the upgrade.

I hope they put it on disc too. I'm a fan of physical media not streaming sites.

                          • Just had a question for those who might know or for Vinegar Syndrome. For Pretty Peaches 3, the DVD had it framed at 1.37:1 while the blu ray had it framed at 1.85:1 I was just wondering which is the original aspect ratio for this film? The blu ray looks okay at 1.85:1, but it was made in 1989 and I saw one review saying this movie went straight to video, but I know Alex De Renzy owned a porn theater, so was it possible that he did show this movie theatrically, if only at his own theater? Anyway just a question, the blu ray of it looks great, but I wondered if this movie did actually play theatrically? Also it looks correct in both 1.37:1 and 1.85:1 so I'm curious as to which one is correct?

                            • PEACHES 3 did play theatrically in Europe where it woulda been framed for widescreen. But on VHS, it was always full frame. They're both accurate.

                              • thanks for the reply John, I had a feeling this movie must have played theatrically, because the 1.85 framing does look good.
