I just wish they had included THE BOOK OF STONE, another superb 1960's horror offering from the director.
I'd been meaning to ask what people's takes on the films in the Taboada box set are.

I watched 'Even The Wind is Afraid' as part of my Halloween viewing last year, and whilst it's an atmoshperic and very nice looking film, I found it a bit too slow and uneventful to fully hold my attention, so I'd be interested to know how his other work compares.

        • From the latest newsletter:

"It's less than two days until the 2023 Halfway to Black Friday Flash Pre-Order goes live, this Friday the 24th at 12:01 AM EST, running through 11:59 PM EST on Sunday the 26th! Only at VinegarSyndrome.com!

The moment the Pre-Order goes live, you'll be able to feast your eyes on Three of our Five spectacular May VS releases, among them world UHD and US BD debuts of two 80s horror classics, plus our next Euro-horror themed box set! On top of that, we'll be revealing quite possibly our biggest VSU to date!

Plus, as always, we'll be providing the first hints towards this year's selection of Halfway Sale Surprise Titles which, in keeping with tradition, are likely to be the most unexpected, exciting, and just plain weirdest releases of the event and in the case of these two particularly, have been the result of years worth of trying to find and secure the rights...

In order to prepare for the Flash Pre-Order option that best suits your proclivities, we will be offering the following three choices:
          1. Everything!: VSU + the three announced titles + the two Secret Titles
          2. VSU only: just the new VSU
          3. Secret Titles only: just the two Secret Titles

Remember, by Pre-Ordering this weekend you'll be able to access the exclusive Pre-Order discounts compared to purchasing any of the same titles during our upcoming Halfway To Black Friday Sale in May. Plus, Flash Pre-Orders are first to ship, after our Subscribers, following the Halfway to Black Friday Sale (May 26th-29th)."

          • I didn't want to miss out on Shaolin Invincibles since it is so close to selling out so I put in my order for that and a few others. Will add the new releases if they are to my taste.

            • So they announced a few titles...

              Showgirls UHD
A Blade In The Dark UHD
              The Boogeyman UHD

And "and perhaps most excitingly, our latest Euro-horror box set, titled VILLAGES OF THE DAMNED: THREE HORRORS FROM SPAIN collects a trio of criminally under-seen works from the country's prolific late 60s-mid 70s genre film output: Pedro Olea's THE FOREST OF THE WOLF [EL BOSQUE DEL LOBO] (1970) an acclaimed werewolf driven folk horror which has never been released outside of its native Spain, Silvio Narizzano's THE SKY IS FALLING [LAS FLORES DEL VICIO] (1975), a nightmarish and macabre morality fable starring Dennis Hopper and Carroll Baker, which makes its world BD debut, and Gonzalo Suarez' BEATRIZ (1976), a nasty tale of supernatural revenge which also makes its world BD debut. All three have been exclusively scanned and restored in 4K by VS from their original negatives, and come complete with several newly recorded and archival extras!."

              • "THE BOOGEYMAN (1980) has long evaded American disc formats". There was an Anchor Bay DVD, right?
"A BLADE IN THE DARK...presented in both its full length/full strength version as well as in its NEVER ON DISC export cut, which represents how the film played theatrically and on video." I've seen two versions: Lightning Video's 96 m. edit and Anchor Bay's DVD, which is 109 m. There's a third cut?

Never seen any of those films from the Euro-horror set. I'm very interested in checking them out.

                  • I couldn’t resist and ordered the Hitman Hart: Wrestling with Shadows Blu today from Amazon.ca. $50 fucking dollars for the pre-order, but it would be $64 after release. Fuck our worthless money.

                    • It would be nice if VS could have a go at Revenge of the Boogeyman. I'm not sure that the original cut has been on DVD outside of Germany, and that one doesn't look great. I enjoy it more than the original due to its sheer cheek, and you don't need to sit through the first one again if you watch it.

Now that I think about it, the never on disc cut is probably the shorter 96 m. version.

I too have not seen RAPIÑA, which is apparently not a horror movie. I found "Darker than Night" to be dull and lacking local atmosphere, despite the raves on IMDB. I suspect that many of the reviewers saw it for the first time on TV as impressionable children. Poison for the Fairies is an extremely good movie.

                              • Any opinions on the April releases?

The Climax/Wet Dreams double feature is really only appealing to me to see the cast on blu as I'd consider Climax a lesser Pachard, closer to a 1 day quickie rather than his more ambitious features of the 80s. I'd love She's So Fine on blu.
