  • Wow that's a lot of new releases, both excited and worried about my wallet. If it's mostly 80s horror and SoV I'll be okay but if it's more HK films and Peekarama I'm in trouble

    • From Beyond 4k, excellent! Also ordered the Made in Hong Kong set (shame ablut Deadly Camp, but time may have improved my opinion of it).
I'm bitter, I'm twisted, James Joyce is fucking my sister.

Yeah, I did a thread on it years ago - https://rockshockpop.com/forum/movie...lador-infernal

It sounded vaguely familiar, it must have been from that thread. Sounds like this and the HK set are must buys.

              • They just announced a limited edition release of the 2002 Ted Bundy movie.

                https://vinegarsyndrome.com/collecti...ucts/ted-bundy

TED BUNDY is part of our Vinegar Syndrome Archive collection, celebrating forgotten cinematic oddities from the video store era. This collection was inspired by our own brick & mortar video store chain, The Archive, with locations in Bridgeport, CT and Aurora, CO.

Unique to this line, each hand numbered limited edition release will come fitted in a specially designed, bottom loading VHS inspired slipcase, while also including a double-sided poster.

These releases will ONLY be available on our website and at participating indie retailers. Absolutely no major retailers will be stocking them. This slipcase edition (designed by Robert Sammelin) is strictly limited to 5,000 units and may (but probably not) be followed by a standard edition in the future.

                ---

Seattle, 1974. Ted Bundy would seem to be a model citizen with a bright future. He’s handsome and has an outgoing and friendly demeanor, he’s dating an attractive woman who loves him deeply, and is doing well at college where he’s studying to become a lawyer. But beneath his “nice guy” exterior, something evil is lurking; a sinister desire to commit the most heinous and unspeakable acts of violence. Unable (or unwilling) to control his urges, Ted eventually gives into to his violent passions and embarks on a cross country killing spree, leaving a trail of raped, tortured, murdered, dismembered, and defiled corpses in his wake…

From the twisted mind of filmmaker Matthew Bright (Freeway) comes this uniquely demented biopic telling the chilling true story of the United States’ first “household name” serial killer, TED BUNDY. Featuring Jennifer Tisdale (The House Bunny), Tiffany Shepis (Tales of Halloween), Boti Bliss (TV’s Bones), and Michael Reilly Burke (Vice, The Collector) as Bundy, and with gore effects created by Tom Savini (Dawn of the Dead, Friday the 13th), Vinegar Syndrome Archive brings this unnerving study of all true madness and murder to Blu-ray, newly restored in 4K from its 35mm original camera negative!

                directed by: Matthew Bright

                • I haven't watched this since it hit the video stores, but as I recall it had a very uneven tone. Some disturbing murders but also some out-of-place dark comedy. I would consider revisiting it.

                    • Flesh & Fantasy was announced.

                      https://vinegarsyndrome.com/collecti...sh-and-fantasy

Welcome Vinegar Syndrome Labs (VSL) to the VS Sub-Label family! As with each of our sub-labels we are hoping to expand and defy expectations with the diversity of films we restore and release. As the name implies, VSL will serve as a kind of testing area for releasing genres and eras of film that one might not immediately expect to come from VS. The ultimate objective of VSL will be to see if these types of films will find an audience, and if so, pursue and release more of them…and even if not, still serve as a means of restoring more of the weird, rare, and unusual movies you might not expect from Vinegar Syndrome.

A trilogy of tales of love and death.

First, a drowning during Mardi Gras leads to a bitter woman’s masked reckoning. Next, an upstanding citizen is driven to madness and murder by a palm reader’s prophesy. Finally, a circus tightrope walker is haunted by dreams of a mysterious woman and his own death.

One of the first horror anthology films made by an American studio – and two years before DEAD OF NIGHT – award-winning director Julien Duvivier (PÉPÉ LE MOKO) delivers FLESH AND FANTASY, three strange and at times surreal stories of the supernatural with an all-star cast that includes Edward G. Robinson (Soylent Green), Barbara Stanwyck (Double Indemnity), and Charles Boyer (Gaslight), who also co-produced. Stunningly photographed by Oscar® winner Stanley Cortez (THE MAGNIFICENT AMBERSONS, THE NIGHT OF THE HUNTER) and lushly scored by Oscar® nominee Alexander Tansman, Vinegar Syndrome Labs presents the Blu-ray debut of this landmark in 1940s genre filmmaking, newly restored in 2K and featuring insightful critical appreciations along with rare archival materials.

                      directed by: Julien Duvivier
starring: Edward G. Robinson, Barbara Stanwyck, Charles Boyer, Betty Field, Robert Cummings
                      1943 / 94 min / 1.37:1 / English Mono

                      • Beast In Space is the Peek-a-Rama title.

                        https://vinegarsyndrome.com/collecti...beast-in-space

In the distant future, Captain Larry Madison, the most heroic leader of the space fleet, has been sent on a mission to Lorigon, a far off planet known to be the galaxy’s greatest resource for Antalium, a precious metal needed to create weaponry. However, when they reach the planet, they discover that it’s overseen by a powerful computer which is capable of forcing all those near it to engage in mindless debauchery. Determined to overcome its effects, Madison and his crew wade through jungles and valleys in search of Antalium…but why does Lt. Sondra Richardson keep having strange sexual nightmares involving a well endowed beast?

An unfiltered product of everything which makes Italian sexploitation cinema legendary, this in-name-only “sequel” to Walerian Borowczyk’s notorious “erotic” fantasy, Alfonso Brescia’s (Naked Girl Killed in the Park) THE BEAST IN SPACE is a wild take on late 70s sci-fi, enhanced with bizarre peplum-esque plot twists and shocking hardcore sex, and starring Sirpa Lane (The Beast, Nazi Love Camp 27), Lucio Rosato (The Barbarians), and the future queen of 80s Italian smut, Marina Hedman (Satan’s Baby Doll)! Long overdue for Blu-ray, Peekarama has painstakingly restored the film from its never before scanned 16mm original negative and invites you to buckle up and blast off to the stars.

                        directed by: Alfonso Brescia
starring: Sirpa Lane, Lucio Rosato, Marina Hedman, Vassili Karis, Venantino Venantini, Umberto Ceriani, Maria D'Alessandro

                        • The Beast in Space interviews could be interesting. Of course the fact that they entitled the Vassili Karis interview "Space Amnesia" is not encouraging.

                          • I have yet to buy BEAST IN SPACE. Looking forward to checking it out Black Friday 2023.

This 10 for $10 is a bit unnerving. I've spent lot of money on Billy Blanks and Don Wilson flicks partially out of FOMO. Seeing that I could have got them cheaper than $25+ is bit of a bummer. I wish there had been more titles I hadn't already purchased. I am kinda interested in BLADES but not if its the only title during the sale I want.

                            • For all the problems our planet is facing, it feels wonderful to live in a world in which a HD presentation of 'The Beast in Space' is considered "long overdue".

In other news, 'Flesh & Fantasy' also looks great - cool to see VS tackling an off-beat studio system/black & white-era film, and I hope there'll be more stuff in that general vein forthcoming.

Yes, it will be interesting to see what else the Labs range brings. Although, knowing VS, at first I thought it would be a range of gyno porn with a name like that ...
