  • Oh man, the August releases are up on the VS website and all of them (save the Peek-a-rama) are packed with extras. Taboo comes with a total of 4 (yes, 4) audio commentaries, half of them brand new. Evils of the Night has the complete alternate TV edit, along with an isolated score and 25 minutes of outtakes. And Sex in the Comics comes with the feature Sextoons as an added bonus.

I've been too poor to grab any VS titles this year, but I might have to try and find a way to buy the August package.

    • It was mentioned on blu ray forum that the original camera negatives for "Taboo" and "Taboo 2" were not available for the upcoming blu ray releases, but I have to say that the screenshots for the "Taboo" blu ray on VS's site are quite beautiful and it's a huge step up from previous versions. The film source VS used for "Taboo" looks more than good to my eyes.

The basic theme of "Taboo" and the rest of the film series is incest. What separates "Taboo" and its sequels( at least "Taboo 2" through "Taboo 5") is the attention to dialogue, mood, and visuals. Kay Parker is fantastic in the first movie. My personal favorite in the series is "Taboo 4".

          • I wanted to make a suggestion for Vinegar Syndrome. I remember someone saying Taboo 5 the film print was lost, but that VS had the rights to release it, maybe they could release a Standard Definition version included on the Blu ray for Taboo 4? Kind of as a bonus feature, like an extra. I mean just to complete the series until the future in case a film print of Taboo 5 is never found. I see other companies release Standard definition content on blu ray's and I thought this might be possible for this also?

            • Yeah, full extras for Taboo are impressive to say the least:

              • Scanned & restored in 2k from 35mm original vault elements.
              • Brand new audio commentary with: Kay Parker (lead actress)
              • Brand new audio commentary with: Helene Terrie (writer/producer)
              • Archival audio commentary with: Kay Parker (lead actress)
              • Archival audio commentary with: Kirdy Stevens (director), Helene Terrie (writer/producer)
              • Archival video interview with: Kay Parker (lead actress)
              • Promotional image gallery
              • Reversible cover artwork

              Dig the cover art too...

                • Looking forward to improving on my ABA disc of "Sex in the Comics," and I've never seen Sextoons, so bonus!

                    Interesting indeed.

I notice that SEX IN THE COMICS comes with SEXTOONS as a extra feature that's pretty swell of VS to include that, I've always wanted to see that one.
I have a VHS of SEX IN THE COMICS and it's truly bizarre.

                    • I watched the Wakefield Poole movies Take One and Moving last night and today and must say great package by Vinegar Syndrome. The films are great, I thought Take One was the better of the 2, but Moving was good as well, and had Casey Donovan, which is always good. I hope Vinegar Syndrome can release some more films by Wakefield Poole, maybe Hot Shots, and Split Image? I see them listed as films he did in the 80's with Casey Donovan in the early 80's, I'd be interested in seeing them, and they seem long OOP. Anyone seen those 2 films before? I have unfortunately not seen much gay porn classics, it seems the vast majority of them went out of print when VHS switched over to DVD, and they were never reissued.

                      • My understanding is that those films from the 80s are not valued by Wakefield himself so I don't think he'd be very interested in having them released. They come from his freebasing/despair period of his life and he felt they have none of the artistry or personality he brought to the films he cared about.

                        • Randy I didn't know that about his 80's films, I think 80's porn in many instances was a step down from the stuff from the 70's, but even so, they are still a GIANT step up from the stuff that would follow in later decades in most instances. I guess back in the 70's and 80's when they thought they were making crap, they didn't realize how good their films would be compared to the crap that would follow lol, I actually enjoyed Boys in the Sand 2, which was a Wakefield Poole film from the 80's, I guess he didn't think maybe it was as good as his earlier films, but I must say I still enjoyed it.

                            • Yes it is a great documentary. Not just for fans of classic adult gay cinema but first fans of classic adult cinema. I have also interviewed Jim Tushinski too.
