So, love'em or hate'em, Code Red have got some really interesting titles coming up in the next few months. Their business practices may be strange and their marketing tactics odd but I'll be damned if they're not turning out some pretty great stuff these days and on a pretty regular basis at that.

Coming in the next short few months...

Probably their most anticipated title - Scavolini's Nightmare:



William O. Brown's The Witchmaker:



Sybil Danning in... Julie Darling!



Caged Men... the trailer sold me on this one, though I don't know much about it other than that:



Night Of The Demon:





They've also got some other great stuff in the works including a reissue of Savage Streets, reissues of Scream with Barn of the Naked Dead, Love Me Deadly with Curious Case Of The Campus Corpse (hosted by Maria whatshername again), Haunted, Mardi Gras Massacre, Cut Throats 9, and a creepy old Canadian horror film I really like, The Ghostkeeper:

Nightmare, I will buy...defo. That was one bizarro, and gory, slasher film.

And...Ghost Keeper?! I wonder it's as offbeat and oddball as I remember?

I believe they're also releasing Paul Lynch's Humongous, uncut no less. And, of course, new progressive editions of Savage Streets and House on Sorority Row.

PS: I really wish someone, most likely Code Red, could get their hands on Michael Winner's Scream for Help! There's a sleazy thriller begging for a DVD release...

Never seen Scream For Help - and I rewatched Ghost Keeper a few months ago, it's still pretty odd. Very much a slowburn but I enjoyed it quite a bit, and a good widescreen presentation would probably only add to that as the copy I have is from a shitty old worn out VHS source.

Humongous and Human Experiments are coming from Scorpion under their similar Katarina's Nightmare Theater line.

Good news! I've always wanted to see Human Experiments as that was one of the mini-slashers of the early eighties that eluded me.

Can't understand why some people are getting so bent out of shape over the whole "Katarina" thing? Who gives a rat's arse, right? We're getting to see these movies on DVD, arent we? Some fans out there are just ungrateful cockheads...

People like to bitch. If CR has to do this to move units and stay afloat, I say more power to them. Would I rather she wasn't on the cover? Yes, but I don't really care enough to let it bug me. It's a PR move, she's very popular, and it could turn out to be a profitable move for them. If they move as few copies of their discs as they claim, this could be a big shot in the arm for them.

People like to bitch...

Ain't that the truth? I know I do too now and then, but I tend to bitch about the bitchers. I mean, who gives a fig really? The films are coming out on digital, which is a whole lot more than they did in the VHS or laserdisc days. I can still remember driving sometimes up to 50 or 80km from home, just to trawl video libraries and see what rarities I could find. Those treks turned up lots of things I would otherwise have never seen...but these days, it's all at the click of a mouse and so damn easy.

If people spent half as much time being thankful of what's available to the cult and genre fans thes days as they did pissing and moaning about everything (as well as actually buying from and supporting labels instead of downloading pirated copies of everything) maybe a few more labels might still be around, or some rarer titles might come to digital. Trouble is, some of these companies invest too much time, and place too much value, in the words of pissant keyboard warriors on the internet. Like the old saying goes: money talks, bullshit walks.

Per Code Red: funny chaps, for sure...but I can see myself snapping up a number of their titles in the near future, as there's some great old B-movies amongst them. B-movie = fun.

If you don't like the cover with the ta-tas on it:

a) you suck
b) make you own cover
c) there are lots of DVDs for awesome movies with shitty covers. If people aren't used to it by now:

1) they suck
2) they need a life outside of their mom's house (except Paulie)
3) I want a sausage, egg, and cheese bagel from that place in Jackson Heights

Got copies of The Redeemer and The Undertaker the other day. The Redeemer plays the Family Honor trailer before the menu loads. I really wanna see this movie, it's definitely got a Massacre Mafia Style vibe to it but like Grindhouse with MMS, Code Red is taking their time with it.

Awesome news! Code Red's sister label, Scorpion Releasing, are putting out Puppet on a Chain! And that's easily one of my favourite of all the Alastair McLean film adaptations, so I'll really be looking forward to that release as I've waited for years to see the film on DVD.

I watched RITUALS for the first time today, via the Code Red disc, and was hugely impressed. I thought it was an amazing film that, for whatever reason, had somehow slipped under my radar until now.
