  • If I upgrade these then eventually I'll have to upgrade all of them. it's a slippery slope. But I can't stop myself...

    • about time. all of them desperately needed a proper restoration long ago. kino/redemption basically did nothing back in the day and every other release subsequently used the same master. the overpriced german mediabooks took the old blue master, "color corrected" them into yellow piss and made it even worse.

      • I've gotta say, I'm a bit disappointed that Indicator aren't releasing the Rollin films as box sets ala their Hammer or Norman J. Warren sets.... but that's largely just a problem re: my wallet and lack of shelf space - I can see why the individual SE route makes more sense for them in budgetary/commerical terms.

Also a bit sad that some of the possible 'bells & whistles' stuff I was hoping for hasn't materialised (eg, tying these releases in with the new documentary, which I'm still dying to see, or... dare I dream of full size reproductions of those Druillet posters as an extra perk?!)

Nonetheless though, that's a nice slate of extras (seemingly incorporating all the stuff Rollin himself contributed to the old Encore DVD sets, and much more besides), and I'm sure the transfers will be a huge upgrade, and 'Frisson..' is one of my favourite films ever.... so fuck it, I'm still in.

I'm surprised Indicator didn't do dual format releases for these LE Rollun titles then do seperate ones for for the standard editions. Would have saved them money in the long run.

          • Ordered FRISSON, but should have ordered the pair. Didn't catch on about the discount.

            • Someone on another forum I was looking at has noted that the spine numbers on Indicator's Rollin releases are 402 and 417, suggesting that 'Rape..' and 'Nude..' could be 400 and 401, with the rest of his (non-porn) filmography following in chronological order... if so, I'm not sure I see them shifting many £25 UHDs of 'Lost in New York' or 'Killing Car' a few years down the line (which is where the idea of box sets would seem to make more sense)... but let's see how it goes?

Where is there a discount if you order both?

From Powerhouse direct, use the code ROLLIN at the checkout to get 10% off. Not sure about the US though if they have their own website or not.

                  • I’m old enough to have bought Rollin’s film on VHS and now own them on multiple digital formats, so will likely wait for reviews of these. I’d be surprised if they sell 4,000 copies of the UHD any time soon.

                    • Yes, 4,000 UHDs does sound pretty ambitious, especially in the case of Two Orphan Vampires.

                      • Possibly, but VS manage to ship as many units of some far lesser films if they have a slipcase. Baffles me sometimes. Powerhouse tend to play the long game, sometimes it takes years to sell out their limited editions and standard versions comes out, but they all seem to eventually. But even by those standards, 4000 UHD and then 4000 Blu on top is a lot. They were piloting going back on the shelves of HMV in the UK. If that becomes a permanent thing, these will probably shift some in casual purchaser sales.

But then again, as the new unelected UK government just destroyed its own economy, I'll probably never be able to import again.
I heard that someone is re-mastering Rollin's 1994 film Le parfum de Mathilde.

Indicator confirmed that they have 20 Rollin films. So there will be 18 more releases, even though box sets make more sense than 18 more individual releases.

                              • There are three things I'd like to see come out of this. First and foremost is god damned Phantasmes on disc. Based on the spine numbering so far, it doesn't seem like it's been eliminated.

Another would be for Les Demoniaques to include the English dub. I realize the rights' holder probably doesn't have elements, but it still exists and may be in the public domain.

Finally, I hope they release Jeunes Filles Impudiques and fix the gate weave or whatever the issue was that made the Blu-ray such a let-down. Seems incredibly fixable.
