  • Although a bit of a surprise after they teased 'The Iron Rose' a while back, I'm very happy to see these latest announcements, especially given that I seem to be one of the few people who really likes 'The Escapees'.

Re: 'Phantasmes' - never say never, but I'd be very surprised to see it in Indicator's Rollin releases, not only due it being effectively impossible to release in the UK, but also, I'm inclined to believe that it is probably *not* amongst the titles for which Rollin himself held copyright / elements (and which have subsequently been acquired by Indicator, via Redemption), in view of the absence of legit releases over the years.

I feel like that's owned by someone else (and already on 4K). IDK.

I know it's been released by Synapse before but don't know if they still have it.

The Le Chat Qui Fume release was in France, so I suppose the US and UK rights might still be up for grabs...?

Might be an easier one for Indicator to acquire than 'Phantasmes', given that it already has a HD master, and a prior release history etc, as well as being softcore.... but what the hell do i know?

          • That would screw up the chronological spine numbers, but that's certainly their prerogative.

            • Maybe they'll combine his early softcore into one spine with Schoolgirls & Fly Me in one set. Throw in Phantasmes as well. A guy can dream...

It did come out on a French 4k but nothing in the US/UK that I can find so there's still hope.

The ONLY English friendly thing about that french release is the film & the deleted scenes, the latter of which has NO dialogue. ALL the rest of the extras are in french ONLY which is annoying considering there's a short film & 2 documentaries among the extras.

Never seen The Escapees, how is it? My fav Rollin is The Iron Rose as a frame of reference.

If that's your favorite you're fine with slow narratives and The Escapees is a mostly slow moving film. It's a sort of mishmash as Rollin himself said he didn't get along with the screenwriter and was morphing it as he went if I remember correctly. It also has semi connections with The Hunted. Definitely worth watching and a more than worthy addition to his filmography.

Very different kind of film. It's more like Requiem for a Vampire without the vampires.

It's notable I think as Rollin's only 'non-genre' feature film, and is a bit rough around the edges, but it has a lot of heart, and should definitely appeal if you enjoy the more whimsical / melancholy aspects of his work.

It covers a lot of the same beats as 'Two Orphan Vampires' (minus the supernatural elements), and is kind of oddly structured content-wise, in that it's basically a gentle, family-friendly affair for most of it's run time, then switches gears for a sudden outburst of nudity, sex and violence during the finale. (I've always assumed it must have been this sudden shift in tone which led to it being considered un-saleable and dropping out of sight for so long, until Redemption put it out in DVD.)

                              • I received the new Indicator/Powerhouse Blu-ray releases of THE ESCAPEES and REQUIEM FOR THE VAMPIRE today. I might watch the former this evening, if I can get my work done and out of the way.
