  • I've pre-ordered Rape as the UHD is £20 on Amazon, but I'll probably see if I want to get Hunted once it's out (the prospect of upgrading every Rollin film is too much even for me). Having said that, these two are essential as far as I'm concerned. I hope Demoniacs is coming soon too, not sure I would upgrade much apart from those though. Although I might once standard versions come out and they are included in their future sales if they're cheap enough.

Would be nice to see some Franco titles held by Redemption coming out as they're really hitting the Rollin titles heavily.
I'm bitter, I'm twisted, James Joyce is fucking my sister.

    • Same boat for me with not wanting to upgrade everything but Lips of Blood is another definite. What I'd really like to see are BDs of his last 2 movies with English options though...

      • It's interesting too to see a Jones / Newman commentary track on 'Lips of Blood'. I seem to recall Kim Newman not being much of a fan of Rollin based on his past comments (or, not exactly a dedicated devotee of his work at any rate), so it will be curious to hear what direction their chat heads in over 90-odd minutes... (I mean, curious in a good way, hopefully ).

          • I can hear the chuckles in the editorial meeting when they came up with that headline. Ah, the '90s.

Such a sea change from the present, when Rollin is pretty much always presented as a misunderstood, poetic auteur.

Anyway, in other news - interesting comments from Michael Brooke on the Cult Labs forum here, re: the logic behind Indicator's release plan for the Rollin titles, essentially confirming that the staggered release of individual titles (as opposed to a box set) is entirely due to the time and expense invovled in creating the new transfers, and that the films are simply being released in order of "when they're ready".

I assume these will all get standard editions somewhere down the line. I have recently relented a pre-ordered a couple but really don’t need the books or oversized boxes at this point.

                • Pleasantly surprised to see that Night of the Hunted has an extra with deleted hardcore sequences (sadly not with Brigitte) that the BBFC passed. They normally only allow real shagging in art house films, and then only in context. Maybe the BBFC are finally admitting they lost the war against porn 30 years ago when the masses started using the internet? I wonder if Powerhouse have access to any decent quality alternate porn versions of their Redemption titles so they can test the water with full-on alternate porn cuts? I guess it's too late now, but I'd like to see a decent version of Suck Me Vampire, especially as it's so different to Lips of Blood. Probably just wishful thinking as it seems the BBFC is a lottery depending on who's interpreting the guidelines. One day you may get the good fairy, and the next General Franco.

That is really interesting. I didn't know the extra bits for 'Night of the Hunted' were hardcore.

I'd be tempted to suspect it might just be a case of the label not bothering to get their extras certified seperately (even though they're supposed to?), or switching things around at the last minute and hoping no one will notice, or somesuch.... except that Indicator strike me as sufficiently straight-laced and attentive to detail that they wouldn't want to risk a product withdrawal or dent to their reputation as a result of such finangling.

(Bit of a tangent, but seriously, is it *really* still standard practice in the UK for labels to put all their extras through the BBFC? My impression is that a lot of features go out with their pre-existing certificates as a cost-saving measure, so it would seem an incredible ballache to pay for every interview or deleted scene to get certified, if in practice nobody gives a monkeys and the labels are never called on it?)

The deleted scenes were submitted to the BBFC, the runtime matches the submission for the alternative scenes in the BBFC listing.

                      • Well that would seem to clear things up then.

Apologies for rambling on instead of doing the sensible thing and just checking.

An encouraging decision then - although as you say, the BBFC have always been mystifyingly inconsistent, so who knows.
