THE GOLDEN AGE OF THE GOTHIC: Exploring THE LONG HAIR OF DEATH

"If you're a fan and scholar of that very special brand of shuddery, gothic thriller that emerged from Italy in the 1960's then there's no point over-preaching the goosebump-inducing gospel of director Antonio Margheriti's THE LONG HAIR OF DEATH. Chances are, you're already of the choir. You understand and value that preternatural power of this film and other of its ilk. You revere that blend of pulp thrills, rich, practical production design, covert eroticism and operatic emotional arcs that marked the best of these remarkable pictures........"

I've often wondered if this film influenced THE WICKER MAN a little.

Those stills look promising, I hope it pans out that way. The old Raro Italy dvd was pretty rough looking.

That is one long ass trailer...but cool. Never seen that before anywhere, making it special even if it's a weak trailer. :)
Next how about ANGEL FOR SATAN with the English audio track ? A HD scan of THE GHOST?

I can't wait for this. I'd love to see more horror like this come to BD.

I've never bought this one on DVD and, in fact, haven't seen it since the early/mid-1990s (first as part of BBC2's MovieDrome; and the second time via a German television broadcast), owing the lack of a decent DVD release rather than an absence of desire to revisit it. I've ordered the Blu-ray, and hopefully it should arrive not long after Christmas. I'm looking forward to seeing the film again :)

I did a spot check through each chapter stop and it looks great to me.

"July Lineup Announcement #4 - 24/07/17The Long Hair of Death - Italian Collection #33

After the murder of her mother and sister, Elizabeth Karnstein (Halina Zalewska, Date for a Murder) is taken in by the affluent Count Humboldt and his family. She has been married to his twisted son, Kurt (George Ardisson, Clap, You're Dead), and as a plague sweeps their small village; one prophesised by Elizabeth's mother before her death, the spectre of Elizabeth's older sister, Helen (Barbara Steele, Castle of Blood) appears. During one fateful stormy night, anyone with the surname Humboldt starts to perish one-by-one.

Antonio Margheriti (Seven Deaths in a Cat's Eye) strikes again, with this brooding gothic chiller that effortlessly re-captures the magic of his acclaimed classic, Castle of Blood.
