A group of soldiers dispatched to the Scottish Highlands on special training maneuvers face their biggest fears after they run into Captain Ryan – the only survivor of a Special Ops team that was literally torn to pieces. Ryan refuses to disclose his mission even though whoever attacked his men might be hungry for seconds. Good on them for doing a standard edition on the same day. Don't think I'll upgrade from the rather raw looking German UHD until this gets under £15. It's fun, but I can wait.

Originally posted by BW Haggar View PostI revisited 'Dog Soldiers' last month for the first time since seeing it on VHS(!) shortly after it came out, and thought it held up really well.
It wears its influences (Predator, Aliens, NOTLD etc) on its sleeve, and some aspects of the scripting are, um... rather ambiguous, to put it nicely, but the action is exhilarating, the gory stuff is horrible (in a good way) and there's a lot more solid acting and affecting character stuff than I remembered; even when it falls back on cliché, the cliché stuff rings true, if you know what I mean.
Unexpectedly, my wife went absolutely nuts for the movie, declaring it her favourite werewolf film ever, which I take as a pretty heavy seal of approval, given that I more-or-less expected her to hate it in view of the grim tone and relentless concentration on male/lad culture.
Speaking of which, we watched the film via a cheeky download which I think must have been taken from the US blu-ray, and whoever put the subtitles track together clearly had a nightmare trying to decipher the British slang which comprises most of the dialogue; there's lots of "(indecipherable)", "khazi" becomes "closet", "you what?" is "yours?", and at one point a squaddie tells the werewolves to "come and have a go if you think you're hot enough". Presumably the Second Sight edition will sort all that out to avoid immediate derision from UK-based customers...

From Second Sight's FB page.
"With the negative scanned and restoration underway we've been held up as needed to scan an interpositive for a few seconds of FX shots. This has taken a few months of logistical issues to gain permission to access but is now in our hands and restoration completion will be end of Jan with a view to releasing 4K and Blu-ray by end of March. Thanks for patience everyone!

For me, it really takes off once they're holed up in the house. Love that sort of thing.

I have the Scream, which is fine for a different look. But if this turns out well, i'll definitely buy this one again. My memory is so bad, i watched the Blu a year or two ago for the first time since it was new, and i had totally forgotten the big twist.

From the Second Sight FB page:
"**DOG SOLDIERS update** For several weeks we've been in discussion about the possibility of access to the negative to scan and create a new 4K restoration. We're very excited to say this will be going ahead and we plan to release on 4K UHD later in the year. The restoration will be a long process but we will update with progress as soon as we can. We think the wait will be worth it!"
