Any one buying this does so knowing that Synapse will bring out the UHD two years down the line and, lets face it, if you're spending $50 for a fractional improvement in image quality now then you're going to do it again a couple years down the track. Maybe it is unavoidable to release the films in this way (*brokendrumdowloadoptionplease) but it does make me feel... I don't know... not right...
My version is the old Anchor Bay dvd so the upgrade to blu-ray will be more than fractional. I've been waiting for this synapse version for 3 years, meanwhile holding off any other blu-ray version that was previously released. With that said 50 USA dollars is a lot for me, with shipping it might cost close to $100 Canadian after exchange etc.. I don't think I will ever go UHD, and if I do I won't be re-buying films, I'm at a age where I have to start thinking of my retirement and shit.

    • Yeah, I actually caved and ordered the Italian BD. I'm sure the Synapse will be definite, but I just can't justify the price difference.

        • I bit on this, but I'm not sure I would have if I had to pay international shipping charges on it.

I figure if a UHD does come out via Synapse (I'm not willing to blind buy the aforementioned European release) I can probably sell this for what I paid for it, or close to it, and justify the upgrade. I imagine despite the 6k print run and high price tag that this one will sell out reasonably quickly.
          Rock! Shock! Pop!

          • Not buying this again until I go 4k, as long as the Italian UHD gets good reviews. Synapse aren't putting out in UHD due to costs. Certainly not paying nearly $75 to import this.

              • A single Blu-ray (or cassette or cd) is $13.50-13.75 First Class International Airmail. That's up to 8 oz's & over that, it jumps to (around) $20 or more with nothing in between. With the weight of the steel book & extra packaging, the price looks about right. That's not counting the % they may add in for PayPal fee's.

I'm going to wait a few weeks before I order. If I miss it, oh well. Gotta buy new vehicle tires this week. Ugh.

                • I just sent a padded envelope with a pair of thin gloves and a lightweight jacket. Shipping cost? $22. That's actual cost at the post office. People need to realize our prices keep going up and up. That's life.

                  • Just added The Paul Naschy collection to my shopping carts on Diabolik and blowitoutahere. See the difference for yourself.

                    Diabolik:

                    Blowitoutahere:

As you can see the difference is almost $23. Why should I order from Diabolik? Beacuse they are cool guys? No thank you!

                    • Diabolik are probably using a tracked service? I can't recall if I've had to sign for their packages in the past, but I believe so, and that's going to bump up the price quite a bit. Maybe the eBay seller is using reduced delivery fees as a way to get more international customers? $5 does sound very low. A regular untracked letter from Sweden to the US, costs 56 SEK (about $7) up to 250 g and 80 SEK ($10) up to 500 g. Don't know how much a DVD weighs, but not more that half a kilo for sure.

                      EDIT:
A registered letter up to 500 g does cost around $20, so we probably have about the same rates as the US.

Yeah I'm fine with that. Usually I had to wait 3 weeks to get a package from Diabolik. I remember when Xploitedcinema was still around 10 years ago or maybe 9, Diabolik's prices were much higher while Tony of Xploited offered much more affordable prices. Guess Jesse and co like to charge as much as possible.

Where do you live? I'm in Canada and the longest I've ever waited for a package from Diabolik is two weeks - and that was one time in 10+ years of buying from them. Their shipping is fast.
Why would anybody watch a scum show like Videodrome? Why did you watch it, Max?

                            • There's no way a package can be mailed overseas from the U.S. for $5.99 or $4.99 (whatever it was). Like I said, for up to 8 oz.'s, it's $13.50 to most of Europe. It's $13.75 to Australia, Japan; not sure that extra distance to Northern Europe would be a quarter more (can't remember without digging through receipts). I mail LPs, cd's, & cassettes to Europe on a frequent basis so I'm dealing with packages that would be close in weight to bd/dvds.

DiabolikDVD may use International Priority b/c they can use the free envelopes. It's more than First Class International.

I remember XC being a bit cheaper than Diabolik so I always bought from Tony. It wasn't until he went out of business that Diabolik started stocking more copies of everything as, obviously, his business increased.

Is there anyone else in the U.S. selling Euro genre releases, books, etc.?
