Not sure if my wallet will be able to handle the pricetag, but this is one movie I'm really thankful Synapse go the extra mile with. Don't release it until it's as perfect as it can be.

I caught the restoration last night outside of Chicago and the soundtrack is the star of the show. The mix is pretty amazing and the panning in the four track mix is astounding. Yes, it looks great too, but the sound is the reason to see it. It was LOUD too -- Don was there and said he told them to turn it up as loud as it could go. My ears rang afterwards and even a little when I woke up overnight too.Last edited by bgart13; 08-05-2017, 07:03 PM.

So, million dollar question time, was it louder than the Anchor Bay release? The easiest way to tell is to compare the opening double murder: in the Anchor Bay release the Goblin is barely audible."Ah! By god's balls what licentiousness!"
Marquis de Sade, The 120 Days of Sodom.

hopefully this is a sign that Synapse will be releasing it on 4K also, since they have done what is supposed to be the best restoration of Suspiria in the world, and I believe that, they do the best restorations possible. I ordered my first 4K movie last night, of Bram Stoker's Dracula it gets released in October, it comes with a Blu ray, I don't have 4K equipment yet, but I will have the 4K disc when I get it. I am beginning to see a trickle of older films, this is a sign that 4K is about to break out I think.

I would like to get the Synapse release of Suspiria, and I do think it's probably worth the price, but I just have a problem paying that much for 1 movie, mainly because I already have Suspiria on blu ray and I paid $12 for it, and I'm happy with the blu ray I already have, maybe if I didn't already have it on blu ray, it'd be differen, but the blu ray I have looks great, and so it's like is it really worth spending $50 for a movie I already have that looks great on my TV? For me it's not, but I have no doubt the Synapse blu ray is a great release, Synapse does good work always, and for those who will buy this release, they will be happy with it I'm sure.

I wonder how it's economic for an Italian company operating in a massively smaller market than Synapse to release to UHD? I already have a copy of the film I'm happy with myself but I can't help feeling that if consumers are paying $50 for a disc then they should be able to be confident that they are getting something that will feel like a definitive edition for more than a week or two. Any one buying this does so knowing that Synapse will bring out the UHD two years down the line and, lets face it, if you're spending $50 for a fractional improvement in image quality now then you're going to do it again a couple years down the track. Maybe it is unavoidable to release the films in this way (*brokendrumdowloadoptionplease) but it does make me feel... I don't know... not right..."Never let the fact that they are doing it wrong stop you from doing it right." Hyman Mandell.
