SUSPIRIA 4K SCREENING WITH DARIO ARGENTO
14 November at the Barbican in London.
CultFilms is proud to present this new 4K restoration in an unforgettable evening with Dario Argento. For one night only, the Maestro introduces his film and returns for a discussion.
Italian horror auteur Dario Argento unleashed the ultimate cult film with his visionary symphony of horror, Suspiria. Ballet student Suzy Bannion (Jessica Harper) arrives at the prestigious Tanz Academy in Freiburg, a school plagued by gruesome and supernatural happenings. Soon students begin to die in horrific circumstances - is Suzy next, and can she uncover the academy's sinister secret before it's too late?
Abandoning the black gloves of the giallo in favour of a witchy brew of magic and murder, Argento carves a Baroque nightmare, saturated with expressive colour and punctuated by shocking violence. Considered the most famous Italian horror film of all time for its vivid, groundbreaking style and jaw-dropping bloodshed, Suspiria returns for its fortieth anniversary to assault audiences once again.
We are delighted to have Dario Argento introduce and discuss the film after the screening, in conversation with critic Alan Jones.
PLUS the SUSPIRIA 4K tour will be going on the road, starting 6 October atBFI London Film Festival and concluding with this very special event at theBarbican Centre. Full information on the tour will be announced soon...

Really looking forward to the first Barbican screening. For the benefit of those in the U.K, tickets went on sale this morning.

I've heard that the Italian UHD disc has an Italian/English option on start-up and English takes you through the logos for the UK distributor, so it appears the disc already exists. If so, why are they having a crowd funder?

                    • Well, they hit 100% of their goal right out of the gate and will be adding a stretch goal soon.

                      • "Stretch Goal : if with your support this campaign reaches £25,000 we will make this Limited Edition even more special! We'll add an additional disc of bonus features by filming and editing our own extra features and/or sourcing and reviving long-disappeared iconic documentaries on Dario Argento - and more depending on funding and production budget!"

                        • I'd love to read some opinions on whether any of you RSP'ers think this release is going to be quickly bested with a US release or a cheaper non-steelbox anytime soon?

                          • I hear you. I'm really tempted by this as I want the movie in true 4k, but I'm gun shy because based on the comparisons I've seen so far I really like the colors on the Synapse version better. But Synapse has said so far that no UHD release is planned.... what to do.... what to do.

I'm more curious as to what the duration, and exclusivity, of Synapses' Region A(?) license is. They could very well just be being cagey about a UHD release in the US so as to not cannibalize sales of the Blu release....

I was reading impressions of the German 4K of NEON DEMON and the consensus was that the lack of HDR kept that release from being a significant upgrade of the BD. I suppose that would be the case with this SUSPIRIA release as well. Is it already a certainty that Synapse will have the best colors?
