  • German Angst - The Return of Jorg Buttgereit

    From Bad Ass Digest:

"it looks like Buttgereit is back with an anthology film which already sports a perfect title: German Angst. He will be joined by Andreas Marschall, director of Tears Of Kali, and Michal Kosakowski director of Zero Killed. German Angst is not yet shooting, but they do have a poster, seen below."

So not much in the way of details yet, but nice to see that he's got something brewing. There's no IMDB link for this yet.

He did something in 2011 called Video Nasty... anyone seen it?

Oh and VIDEO NASTY is same as the above GREEN FRANKENSTEIN / SEX MONSTER in that it is a radio play acted on stage and filmed..

IDEO NASTY was one evening of these film lectures. It's ready, but we haven't released it on DVD or anything, because it's only a radio play. This one is a very straight - a radio play made on the stage with only one day of rehearsal. That was very rough. The funny thing is that it's a radio play that works like an Italian zombie movie. For the German audience, the twist is that the actors onstage pretend to be actors in a bad Italian horror movie, and they are very well-known established stage play actors in Germany. If you don't know that, then it might not be funny at all. Over here, it's like you have these serious people, who do HAMLET and stuff like that, but now they are doing a Fulci zombie movie. Some of the actors are doing the dubbing voices of American actors. The main actress in VIDEO NASTY is the German voice for Angelina Jolie, for example. So you have these very strange combinations that only work in German, I'm afraid.

Website is now live for this.

Looks like they're going to be using a crowd sourcing model (already live in Europe, coming to the US in June).

Looks like $30,000 Euros to do it. Not sure if that's just from Germany and they want more from us filthy rich Americans and our unstoppable economy. If I get a job soon than I will definitely support this.

I didn't realize that they'd started a kickstarter campaign for this. Here's the info, courtesy of a press release from Nico at Cult Epics who has asked me to pass this along in hopes of getting the word out.

                GERMAN ANGST on KICKSTARTER 10.10.2013

                We need your support!

Three maverick German directors bring you three urban nightmares in a fascinating horror anthology - and present a new vision of the genre.

GERMAN ANGST is an extreme-horror collaboration between Jí–RG BUTTGEREIT (Nekromantik, Der Todesking), ANDREAS MARSCHALL (Tears of Kali, Masks) and MICHAL KOSAKOWSKI (Zero Killed) that leads you into the dark alleyways of contemporary Berlin in stories of love, sex and death.

The first episode, Jí¶rg Buttgereit's FINAL GIRL, tells the story of a young girl who lives alone with her guinea pig in a rundown apartment in Berlin. But is she really alone? In the bedroom lies a man, bound and gagged...

In the episode ALRAUNE by Andreas Marschall, a young man stumbles upon a secret sex club in Berlin's nightlife that promises the ultimate sexual frontier experience by using a drug made from the roots of the legendary Mandragora plant. But the ecstatic experiences have horrific side effects...

MAKE A WISH by Michal Kosakowski is a disturbing fable in which a deaf-mute couple of Polish origin are attacked by a sadistic Neo-Nazi gang. In possession of a powerful amulet, the couple try to turn the tables on their assailants and wreak a terrible revenge, albeit paying a heavy price.

GERMAN ANGST celebrates the return of cult director Jí¶rg Buttgereit after a twenty-year absence from horror filmmaking, while Andreas Marschall continues his exploration of a dark underworld embossed by lust, sex and the psyche and Michal Kosakowski confronts us with violence in all levels of society today, and throws the viewer's preconceptions back on themselves.
Whether a hardcore horror fan or a newcomer to the genre, film lovers everywhere can look forward to a terrifying visual feast.

Sponsor GERMAN ANGST on Kickstarter starting 10.10.2013 for us to make the film you been waiting for! Giveaways! Limited signed editions and more.

Where is best to start with Jorg? Never seen one of his movies but I always figured he'd be worth a look as he directed my faourite episode of Lexx. It's the episode where the ships disembodied robot head finds a body and is going to use it to shag the ships mind blowingly hot love slave only to find the body has other ideas and would prefer to rape Stan the ships captain. Nutso episode even for Lexx.

Both Nekromantik films, Schramm and Der Todesking are all really well done, gritty, grimy, nasty and twisted little movies. I'd say you can't go wrong with any of them, but watching Nekromantik 1 before 2 would make more sense.

From what I recall when speaking with a friend who is friends with Jorg, he has been doing a fair bit of the radio-play and stage-play work in recent years. So, he has certainly been keeping busy...just not within the film medium so much.

He mentioned GERMAN ANGST earlier this year or perhaps even last year when I asked what Jorg was up to these days. Looking forward to this!

I'm a backer, but this Kickstarter looks like it'll be a bust.
