At the time I'd only seen one or two Franco films and was very much on the fence about watching any more. I toughed it out and grew to appreciate and even love the old Spanish madman. I watched the interview on the "The Demons" disc yesterday and felt a tinge of sadness about the fact that he's gone. He seemed like such a cool entertaining guy. Smart and funny. I will get the "Nightmares Come At Night" disc soon. Still waiting for it to drop below £10. The Redemption disc being hit and miss doesn't bother me much. If I recall correctly the Shriek Show disc looked like ass too.

The Redemption Blu of NIGHTMARES... is a worthy improvement over Shriek Show's DVD. It's worth the upgrade for a tenner, I reckon.
It's a good film. I like it a lot. It's one of those Franco pictures that needs to be seen in context though, I think, so it's probably not a good picture if you're 'new' to Franco.'You know, I'd almost forgotten what your eyes looked like. Still the same. Pissholes in the snow'

You're absolutely right. For curious beginners I always recommend Vampyros Lesbos, She Killed In Ecstacy (too lazy too google spelling) and from there Succubus and the Dietrich stuff. Best to steer clear of the 80's and 90's completely until they're truly hooked on him as a filmmaker. His 80's doesn't do anything for me at all, besides Bloody Moon and Sadomania. The rest of the 80's stuff I've seen (so far) is godawful and his 90's are almost all unwatchable. I did like Dr. Wong though, for some reason and Maricookie provided a few chuckles. I wanted to kill myself during Incubus.

While my own preference in terms of Franco's output is for the De Nesle pictures and his 1960s monochrome films, he made some pretty good pictures in the 1980s. His 1990s output is less interesting, although I really love TENDER FLESH and LUST FOR FRANKENSTEIN. I like KILLER BARBY'S too.'You know, I'd almost forgotten what your eyes looked like. Lalala76: You have obviously not watched the right 80's films. There are some true gems from his Golden films period. The 90's ...well... I agree on that.
Kevin Coed: I find MANSION OF THE LIVING DEAD to be very underrated from his 80s stuff.

I recommend la noche de los sexos abiertos (my favourite 80's), Botas negras latigo de cuero, gemidos du placer, Sex is Crazy, Night of 1000 sexes or even intimate confessions of an exhibitionist.Last edited by Lalala76; 05-28-2014, 07:00 PM.

It had a gloomy atmosphere, so that in the back of your head you knew something was wrong all the time. And still the ending was like a punch in the gut.
