Cant find any info on these whatsoever!! I guess, would have to navigate German or Austrian AV forums. They have nothing to do with Ascot-elite as far as Im aware. Would be interesting to see if it is actually an English language version of the soft edit of Doriana. The Doriana box seems to look nice, but not too fond of the others. I much prefer Ascots, more colourful covers.

Edit: seems to have the same extras as the Ascot-elite edition, include the alternative version. So It probably is the hard version after all.

    • These are re-packages (very common here in Germany) of the Ascot-BDs for the Hardbox collectors.

Thanks for clearing that up Stephen.

        • I received the DOWNTOWN BD today and watched it today also. The film is slightly more explicit than I remember it being (though that erect penis may have been cropped on the fullscreen transfer Anchor Bay UK released in their Franco boxset, which is the only presentation of the film I've seen before). I really like this film; I hadn't seen it in almost ten years, but it stuck in my memory. It's Franco-does-Godard-does-Lemmy Caution-does-Bogart-does-Philip Marlowe - pastiche upon pastiche upon pastiche, so that the film vaguely resembles a hard-boiled narrative, filtered through a European sensibility, with some New Wave-style aesthetics, and some added t'n'a.

It's also utterly bleak, something I'd forgotten about before: everyone here is a puppet who has the illusion of autonomy (the 'naked puppets/dolls of the underworld' that the German title alludes towards). The people pulling the strings are never seen. Pereira is the 'fall guy', but so are Cynthia and Lola's 'victims', and so, in a way, are Cynthia and Lola themselves. Paul Muller's detective watches on, helpless to make any change whatsoever to this cycle of exploitation. It's sort of like HBO's THE WIRE, but with lots of exhibitionists and lovely Mediterranean locations.

The presentation on the BD is stunning, although the subtitles go out of synch at times and a few lines aren't subtitled (or possibly, are subject to a glitch in which the subtitles for those lines don't appear correctly).

          • Downtown is one of my favourite Franco's. Believe it or not its not the best looking of the ascot transfers, but you may notice it more due to the difference between the dvd and the blu. Its probably the most notable upgrade.

            • Watched the blu-ray of Die Sklavinnen tonight. Was worried about this one as it had been put back for further work. As with the dvd at about the 40 minute mark there is a drop in visual quality for about 20 minutes, which I can ony presume because that section was sourced differently. However, I have to say the majority of the film looks absolutely fantastic and it seems that these ascot releases seem to be getting better, visually at least. The film itself, I do like quite a lot, although I've always found it a bit confusing.

I guess its because I've been spreading positive vibes obsessively!! But thanks for posting Ian. I couldn't work out how to post as image size was too large. Beat me to it!!!

                    • Get the image size under 100k and you should have no trouble.

I'm blanking out on these titles. What are the other titles we know them by?

                              Got it.

Jolly good about the English subtitles.
