How is this one? I'm more into Franco's dreamy, erotic reveries, but this one seems intriguing. I imagine the VS copy about this being a legit Franco-gialli is slight hyperbole, but what do you think?

    • Even as a fan of Franco, I have always felt that Skull is pretty weak. It will be a pleasure to watch Fish and Blood Bath in restored condition. Both are pretty intriguing.

        • Got around to watching Voodoo Passion. This film is beautifully shot. The colors are rich and the scenery is interesting. The interiors are full of fascinating art. The bedrooms with mirrored walls and hot tubs enhance the (bizarre) sex scenes. The Full Moon blu-ray looks and sounds fantastic which was a big factor in enjoying this film. The story is very thin but was enjoyable enough to hold my interest until the intriguing finale. Thank you Jack Taylor. Vicky Adams with her long, lean frame is absolutely stunning. She has tan lines that are especially nice and her eyes are mesmerizing. There are an excessive amount of closeups on eyes but they have a purpose and I enjoyed them. I started watching the film with the English dub which is horrendous. Its funny Stephen Thrower mentions in his book that he greatly enjoyed English Dub for same reasons I found it grating. The actors sound like childish idiots in the English dub. Thankfully the German dub made the film much more enjoyable. It always feels like a missed opportunity when there is a Jess Franco release without a Stephen Thrower interview, but at least we have his book. What he wrote in Flowers of Perversion was a treat to read.

I love the cover for Voodoo Passion (and the Flowers of Perversion book). It appears they may have been some strategic photoshop to make the cover of Stephen Thrower's book more shelf worthy. I suppose it could be an alternate take.

The Mondo and Le Chat Qui Fume editions utilize a French print and the Italian hardcore negative in separate approximated reconstructions of Franco's intended version (the Mondo version runs longer at the end because it uses an additional take from a different angle of the final shot).

Hope they include the following extra from the French BD release with added subs as this is the ONLY extra that isn't English frendly on said French release.

"Franco the Possessed with Alain Petit" 2018 featurette (47:09)

Is Kino releasing the Mondo Macabre titles now? So far they've put out Lorna and Sinner.

***SEVERIN BLACK FRIDAY TITLE REVEAL #7***

              THONG GIRLS

              THE WORLDWIDE DISC PREMIERE

This 1983 production from writer/director Jess Franco can finally be experienced as one of his most surprising and heartfelt offerings of the decade: It’s summer’s end in the resort city of Benidorm, where seductive foreigners, conniving hustlers, gullible tourists and insatiable celebrities all come together in a barbed confection that’s part sunny comedy, part NASHVILLE-style satire and totally, unmistakably, sexy Franco fun. Jess’ partner/muse Lina Romay (at her most luscious) and production manager star Antonio Mayans (NIGHT OF OPEN SEX) are joined by a cast of familiar faces from their ‘80s stock company – including Eva León (MANSION OF THE LIVING DEAD), Muriel Montossé (THE INCONFESSABLE ORGIES OF EMMANUELLE), Juan Soler (CRIES OF PLEASURE) and Analía Ivars (BAHIA BLANCA) – in this unexpected delight from “one of the cinema's great individualists” (The Guardian), now scanned in 2K from the original camera negative with over 2 hours of new Special Features.

              Special Features for THONG GIRLS:

              • Audio Commentary With Francomania's John Dixon And William Morris
              • Jess Franco's Naked City – Interview With Stephen Thrower, Author Of Flowers Of Perversion: The Delirious Cinema Of Jesús Franco
              • In The Land Of Franco Part 11

              Feature Specs for THONG GIRLS:

              • Aspect Ratio: 1.66:1
              • Runtime: 85 mins
              • Audio: Spanish Mono

              • Title's a bit awkward. Never bothered with this one, sounds a bit tame (I can take his comedies if they have a heavy sleaze factor). Will wait for a sale.

                • Probably the first time someone compared Altman's Nashville to Thong Girls. Never seen this one and don't remember it from Thrower's exhaustive book. Will read up on it and make my decision then.

                    Yeah, I know, right?

I'm guessing that by this point, that's just short-hand for "follows multiple characters around a shared location".

As I recall, Thrower's write up on this one was more-or-less along the lines of saying it's a charming and good-natured change of pace amid Franco's '80s output... but still probably a "for completists only" effort I suspect.

And, I mean, I thought I was a completist, but the requirement to buy this one is testing my faith. Watching the films Franco shot in Benidorm tends to give me traumatic flashbacks to the time I actually had to go there for a few days; not really an experience I wish to relive, least of all through the lens of a zero budget sex comedy.
