I'm very sorry to hear this news.

I've often listed 'Blood on Satan's Claw' as my favourite film of all time, so I definitely need to give Haggard props.

Speaking about it in interviews, he always seemed very serious and intense, which might help explain why he never managed to obtain much of a follow-up career in features. (I mean, I'm sure it was this approach which led to the film turning out as brilliantly as it did, but it probably wasn't quite the vibe the likes of Tony Tenser or Deke Heywood were looking for in the mid '70s, I can only imagine.)

I also really like his 'Quatermass' series - it's odd, and disturbing, and perpetually underrated - and you've also got to admire his chutzpah for stepping in to take over 'Venom' after Tobe Hooper bailed, and actually delivering a half-decent movie. (What was his famous quote on that one? "The friendliest person on set was the snake," or words to that effect.)

    RIP.

Shame he didn't do more theatrical movies. His Quatermass series/film was pretty unique.

His daughter is quite a familiar face on British TV.

On the one hand, the idea of publishing a novelization of a film 50+ years after the fact seems kind of ridiculous, but on the other hand... I'm such a 'Blood on Satan's Claw' fanatic, I'm fairly sure I need to read it, and will enjoy it. On the list it goes...
There's was an audio adaptation done 4 years ago featuring half of the League of Gentlemen as well as Linda Hayden.

CDs of it are available on bandcamp https://thescarifyers.bandcamp.com/a...on-satans-claw

The best audio/radio adaptation of a film I've listened to is An American Werewolf in London (1997), made for BBC Radio 1, which expands on the original scripts etc.

Supposedly the current German UHD is a shitty AI upscale harvested of its grain. Don't know if this will just be the same or not, probably just a re-release. Awesome cover though.

'..Satan's Claw' was officially my favourite horror film the last time I looked, so I need to get on with reading this - thanks for the link.

For anyone interested, I wrote an essay about the role of The Judge in THE BLOOD ON SATAN'S CLAW for the 5th special issue of Horror Homeroom. I tried to situate the character within both the context of the film's setting and the subgenre of witch-hunting films. The full journal can be found here:

If you want to go straight to my essay, it's also available on the Horror Homeroom website: http://www.horrorhomeroom.com/i-shal...adicalisation/

If the information is correct, it looks like NSM in Germany are releasing this on UHD in several different mediabook variations in March

I agree with the gentleman from Bristol, whomever he is. BLOOD ON SATAN'S CLAW is one of England's finest horror films, period. It evokes creepy things out of earthiness, folklore and perhaps jurisprudence. Plus the girls are good-looking. I wallow in the ambiance. It is superbly photographed. Piers Haggard delivered this film ship-shape in Bristol fashion.

I'm buying it before reading the reviews.

The score by Marc Wilkinson is a unique approach to the horror film and infinitely more effective because of it. The soundtrack is essential. Buy It Now:

Less than a month until this one is released now. I just pre-ordered my copy from Amazon.

BLOOD ON SATAN'S CLAW is one of my absolute favourite British horror films. It's one of the best horror films of the 1970's full stop, in my humble opinion. I had actually pestered Odeon about releasing this on Blu-ray a few times last year. It always seemed like a no-brainer following their essential Blu-ray of WITCHFINDER GENERAL.
