The audio track seems to contain the original foley too. Nice release :)

Would you say the image quality and timing is righteous? like the Italian blu-ray of A FISTFUL OF DOLLARS?

I would indeed, Richard. I'd say it's on par with the Italian FISTFUL Blu.

But then, the MGM BD (which I never bought due to the missing footage and new foley) is said to be very good too in that regard.

The region A from MGM is not righteous. It has a faint brown tint over it. The flesh tones in the Italian blu and the color overall is infinitely better, going by the screencaps linked or posted somewhere on this forum.

But FOR A FEW DOLLARS MORE is the blu I really want. Again, the region A from MGM has a faint brown tint over it.

Paul if you have time do you think you could do a comparison against this list, is the longer take of the laughter included? always thought the MGM abreviated version was a bit jarring. This release sounds very promising !

I haven't seen the MGM BD, Richard, but Tobis' Blu-ray looks more like the German Paramount DVD than the MGM SE DVDs. Unfortunately, I don't have a BD-ROM drive so can't take screengrabs.

I'll have a closer look when I've finished my work tonight, Andrew. From my spot check earlier, the scene of Eastwood waiting outside the saloon is complete, and the beating scene includes the footage missing from both the MGM DVDs/BDs and the Italian Blu. (The image of Eastwood being held with his arms pinned behind his body really punctuates that already sadistic scene of Manco and Mortimer being beaten by Indio's gang.)

Andrew, I've checked again and I'm pretty sure this new German BD contains the full take of Volonte laughing. I shall have to dig out one of my old DVDs to compare with it, to make certain, but for the time being I'll say that I'm pretty sure this is the case.

One slightly irritating thing is that the post-credits title card ('Where life had no meaning, death sometimes had its price...') is here presented in German ('Wo das Leben seinen wert verloren hat, hat der Tod - manchman - seinen preis. Dies is der grund fur die jagd nach dem kopfgeld'). In light of everything else this release gets right, I can live with this.

Seconded! I'd like the shorter export cut on BD or, if they insist on sticking with the longer Italian domestic version, a release with the original sound mix and the material not originally dubbed into English presented in Italian with subtitles.

                          Yes.

I like the way this was handled on THE BIG GUNDOWN.

That's the way to handle it, definitely. My hopes for THE GOOD, THE BAD AND THE UGLY are that one of the German companies can get their hands on it - because they seem the most capable of doing justice to these films.

I don't like the extended version of TGTBATU. It's too long. The narrative drive comes to a STOP a couple times. Eastwood's and Wallach's voices in the revoiced scenes sound forty years older than in the rest of the film. I do wish the regular version that I grew up with were available on blu-ray. It's on the discontinued DVD but that transfer isn't as good and not anamorphic.

Look at the screen caps from a A FISTFUL OF DOLLARS comparing the MGM blu-ray to the RHV Italian, region-free blu-ray. Not the striking difference in color timing. It's as if a brown curtain had been lifted off the Italian and the flesh tones are more natural. This is what I hope to see in the Universum blu-ray of A FEW DOLLARS MORE.

I believe there are screen caps which have appeared on the Internet over the past few days that suggest the Universum presentation is somewhere between the Italian Blu and the MGM discs, Richard. I think they're on the Sergio Leone forums.
