  • Blue Underground Releasing Goodbye Uncle Tom On UHD

    From FB:

"We've had a lot of people asking about GOODBYE UNCLE TOM and we finally have an update. This has turned out to be an incredibly complicated and challenging project, but we're happy to report the new 4K restorations of both versions are nearing completion. New Extras are also in production, and while we're not able to set a firm release date yet, we do expect it to come out some time this Summer."
    Rock! Shock! Pop!

I wonder if they will be able to include both the US and Italian cuts.

Yeah, the description says "both versions".
Why would anybody watch a scum show like Videodrome? Why did you watch it, Max?

This is jaw dropping on an exploitation level, but a bit of a slog.
I'm bitter, I'm twisted, James Joyce is fucking my sister.

Agreed. Their masterpiece is AFRICA ADDIO.

Yeah, it's outrageous but also slow. I think the best thing is the Ortolani soundtrack.
I don't go to church. Kneeling bags my nylons.

I wonder if this means "Mondo Cane" would be considered as a future 4k UHD release.

I wish someone would release the Castiglioni Brothers Mondo films.

Yeah we need both the Castiglioni brothers and Climati/Morra films. Massacre Video released Magia Nuda ( Mondo Magic ) on dvd, Savage Man Savage Beast and Addio Ultimo Uomo are out on Japanese dvd. But that’s about it I think. Has anybody here by the way seen Africa Segreta, the first Castiglioni film? I have never seen a release of that, not even on vhs.

Seek out Kael's review if you can, it is absolutely hilarious. Would be a genius move to include it in the booklet.

I'd like someone to release the Shocking Asia trilogy as well as the following mondo films:

                        Sweden: Heaven and Hell
L'altra faccia del peccato (aka The Queer, the Erotic)
Mille peccati... nessuna virtù (aka Mondo Sex)
                        Inghilterra nuda (aka Naked England)
America così nuda, così violenta (aka Naked and Violent)
Notti Porno nel Mondo (aka Mondo Erotica)
Des Morts (aka Of the Dead)
Le Schiave Esistono Ancora (aka Slave Trade in the World Today)
                        L'amore primitivo (aka Primitive Love).
Il Pelo nel Mondo (aka Go! Go! Go! World)
                        Macabro (1966)

I snagged this a few years ago on DVD as part of an affordable triple disc set Blue Underground had available. I have to say it shocked me. I'd put it up there with the 1st and 4th Men Behind The Sun films in terms of horrific historical exploitation films.

The best word I can use to describe it is "nasty." It's a real nasty film. Not overly mean spirited exactly but just...disturbing. And I guess what I found most shocking was the fact that they were able to get hundreds of extras to recreate the terrible slavery conditions. The participants seemed almost gleeful at times, even when it wasn't called for by the script. I guess they were just happy to be in a movie and get paid? Like, folks are smiling and giggling as they pretend to eat slop out of a trough. They're sticking some infant in it and laughing. What the fuck!?!

The most offensive part of the film, in my opinion, is when one fat slave owners trots out his "prize breeding stud," this hulking, toothless, slobbering, cock-eyed mentally challenged man. They toss some (hot) young slave chick in his cage and cackle as they watch him have his way with her. Good lord!

If you showed this film in American theaters today, no joke, I think there'd be riots.

Only thing I want from BU is Stagefright on 4K. They can keep their Uncles and Aunts Tom and Jess Franco trash.
