  • According to the dvd release info at the SWDB it only has German subtitles, though it does have english audio. They are usually pretty accurate there. Interesting that the special features have english subtitles though, that's something new for Koch.

    • Do any of you guys know if this DVD of THE GREAT SILENCE is a good one?

Have you seen the Wild East edition? What did you think of that?

It didn't have the Italian track, unfortunately. Wild East never lets us have a foreign language track, not even as an option. But the transfer was up to snuff.

        • Thanks, Andrew. I was kinda hoping, given Koch's track record, that they'd included English subs for the Italian track.

Richard, I thought the Wild East rerelease was a big improvement over their first go-round with this film and am very happy with that disc, but I'd love to see how the movie plays out in the Italian version.

          • Disappointing review of one of Shout's Django double features. The transfers only get 2 and a half stars, but the guy still calls them pretty good?

            • I'm not too surprised to hear it's a mediocre disc, but it is disappointing all the same...particularly from Shout. I have a fan version of DJANGO KILLS SOFTLY and like that film so I'm still hoping it improves on that. DJANGO'S CUT PRICE CORPSES unfortunately sounds as awful as I feared it would be. I love spaghetti westerns but the bad ones are deadly.

Paul, I would be tempted to get that Koch dvd too if it included english subs. I usually prefer the dub for westerns but in the case of this film it's be an interesting thing to hear it in Italian.

              • Yep, I've heard that it plays out quite differently in Italian - rather like DJANGO and THE GREAT SILENCE. With most Italian Westerns on the other hand, I'm happy with the English dubs.

                • Blue Underground and Rialto pictures are bringing the original Django back to theaters for some limited runs across the US (and Toronto).

                      • Wild East's double feature of NEST OF VIPERS/TAILS YOU LOSE is in stock at Diabolik. Be interesting to see what VIPERS looks like, the quasi-bootleg from Global was nice albeit not anamorphic. It's a good picture, one of my favorite spaghetti westerns - though it's offbeat and probably not going to appeal to all SW fans.

                          • Not really very exciting news - unless you're not region free - but MGM has released as Amazon exclusive double features (each film on its own disc) DEATH RIDES A HORSE/A REASON TO LIVE A REASON TO DIE and THE MERCENARY/GOD'S GUN. $15 for each double feature - on dvd-r. All are anamorphic widescreen save for GOD'S GUN. Maybe they'll get to some that aren't already available. Saw this news at the SWDB forum.

I'll be buying that DEATH RIDES A HORSE/A REASON TO LIVE, A REASON TO DIE double feature. I hope ARTLARTD has Coburn's actual voice on the audio. As great as Wild East's release of this was, it was distracting not to hear Coburn's dialogue said by him. The overdub threw off the film for me.

I'm with you on Coburn's voice being a must, but according to the runtime posted at the SWDB forum, this will be the shorter US cut at 90 minutes. That's a good bit missing even if Coburn's voice is in this version.
