I watched the longer 118 min cut of A MINUTE TO PRAY, A SECOND TO DIE today via the German BD release from Colosseo Film. Whilst not exactly a revelation in comparison with the 98 min US cut, the longer cut is certainly a more 'rounded' film (in my view, at least), and the downbeat ending is much more in keeping with the material and philosophy of the picture - ultimately validating the marshall's (Arthur Kennedy) viewpoint, to some extent. The 'problem' with this film is arguably Alex Cord's performance, as he's very 'flat' in the leading role and the character of Clay comes off as a bit of an unfocused, whiny brat; but Kennedy and Robert Ryan give the film a little more 'life' when they appear in the picture.'You know, I'd almost forgotten what your eyes looked like. Still the same. Pissholes in the snow'

The shorter cut is included in the set on a DVD. I've not checked this disc out yet because I've seen the shorter cut many times before, so can't at this juncture attest to the audio options available for the presentation of the shorter edit. I'll check the disc tomorrow and get back to you, if you like.
I recently bought the Colosseo Films release of BLACK JACK too. I will be interested in watching that one, as I put together my own composite version of that film a few years back and am curious to see if the Colosseo Films release is indeed completely uncut. (It most likely is, to be fair.)'You know, I'd almost forgotten what your eyes looked like. Still the same. Pissholes in the snow'

I really like this movie but agree about Alex Cord coming off rather flat. The whole movie has a bizarre kind of tone to it that I really like. I only caught up with it with the recent-ish Kino dvd. The original grim ending is the more natural fit. It makes a good double feature with THE MAN CALLED NOON. They both cast American stars as characters with a debilitating condition."When I die, I hope to go to Accra"

This looks like it has the potential to be pretty interesting. Unfortunately the only physical media release thus far is not English friendly.
