Taking place over 24 hours following the police shooting of a young man from a Parisian housing estate, Mathieu Kassovitz’s breakthrough film shows the world through the eyes of three friends from the banlieue – one North African, one Jewish and one Black – who are frustrated with politicians, the media and police brutality. Black-and-white visuals, a thumping hip-hop soundtrack and graffiti-daubed streets underscore the urgency and rebellion at the heart of this game-changing classic, which won Kassovitz the Best Director prize at Cannes in 1995.
Following its BFI Blu-ray release in 2020, the film now comes to UHD in a 4K restoration for its 30th Anniversary. This new edition includes an alternative score by award-winning electronic music collective Asian Dub Foundation, recorded live at the Royal Festival Hall in 2025. The release will be celebrated by theatrical screenings of the film at BFI IMAX and other venues from 11 April which will be listed here.

"To celebrate the 30th anniversary of its sensational premiere at the 1995 Cannes Film Festival, Mathieu Kassovitz's LA HAINE will be made available in a new 4K UHD edition. The release will include all the extras from the previously released BFI Blu-ray, as well as a re-print of the 80-page book that accompanied the 25th anniversary edition. The anniversary will also be marked with screenings at selected cinemas across the UK."

I've seen a couple of terrible translations of this in the past, hopefully BFI will get the tone of the slang/references right.
This is a classic example of a director not being able to get anywhere near to the quality of their early work again.Leave a comment:

A bit of an underground hit back in the day. Pretty much every filmlover I know who is born earlier then the late 80s have seen it and likes it. Younger people have totally missed this gem. And this won't be their opportunity to rectify that, as they do not buy physical media.
