  • Criterion Releasing Essential Fellini Boxed Set

    Coming 11/24/20.

"One hundred years after his birth, Federico Fellini still stands apart as a giant of the cinema. The Italian maestro is defined by his dualities: the sacred and the profane, the masculine and the feminine, the provincial and the urbane. He began his career working in the slice-of-life poetry of neorealism, and though he soon spun off on his own freewheeling creative axis, he never lost that grounding, evoking his dreams, memories, and obsessions on increasingly grand scales in increasingly grand productions teeming with carnivalesque imagery and flights of phantasmagoric surrealism while maintaining an earthy, embodied connection to humanity. Bringing together fourteen of the director's greatest spectacles, all beautifully restored, this centenary box set is a monument to an artist who conjured a cinematic universe all his own: a vision of the world as a three-ring circus in which his innermost infatuations, fears, and fantasies take center stage."

    Will contain the following films:

    Variety Lights
    The White Sheik
    I vitelloni
    La strada
    Il bidone
    Nights Of Cabria
    La dolce vita
    8 1/2
    Juliet Of The Spirits
    Fellini Satyricon
    Roma
    Amacord
    And The Ship Sails On
    Intervista

There's also the following unless they are included among the extras.

NBC Experiment in Television - Fellini: A Director's Notebook (TV Episode)
      The Clowns (TV Documentary)
Che bel paesaggio: Bitter Campari (Short)
Alta Societí : Rigatoni Barilla (Short)
The King of Ads (Documentary) (segments "Campari commercial", "Barilla commercial") (Think this complete documentary might be have had a NON-English friendly DVD release in Italy)

Unless some these are actually improved upon I just need Juliet Of The Spirits since the UK disc sucks.
For me Fellini's films died with Nino Rota
City Of Women, Ginger And Fred and The Ship Sails On were all lacking in the theater without him.

Fellini: A Director's Notebook is included in the set ("New digital restorations of the short film Toby Dammit (1968) and the television film Fellini: A Director's Notebook (1969), with uncompressed monaural soundtracks") and the special features mention "Program from 2003 on Fellini's 1980s television advertising work," so those ads might be included in that (I'm not sure.)

And I did mention The Clowns (I Clowns) as available from Raro.

I wish someone would release the COMPLETE The King of Ads documentary instead of just various director's segments for a release of one of their films.
