Synapse version is also up for pre-order at Diabolik, supposedly the discs are identical, just different packaging.

And, this is the proverbial straw that broke the camel's back. The "retail" version is $43.99. The "Exclusive" version is $64.99. Nope. Not when I can import the Arrow version (with the exact same packaging, for chrissakes) for, approximately, the same price as the "retail" version.

I've gone to bat for Don multiple times over the years. This just takes the fucking cake tho. I have to believe that the majority of his sales for this are going to be folks like us -- diehards, Argento-philes, etc. How many of us are going to be willing to pay a 33% premium over the Arrow release (which you can order directly from Arrow)? Don't know, but I know that I'm not going to be among them.

I ordered the Arrow arte originale (pretentious fuckers) version direct from them because the standard sleeve is shite. I know it's the same design as the other Argento UHDs but they look shite too. Never seen the Unsane cut, so nice to have that as a curio.

Here's the official press release from Synapse.

                FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

DIRECTOR DARIO ARGENTO'S CLASSIC FILM TENEBRAE CELEBRATES ITS 40TH ANNIVERSARY NEWLY RESTORED IN 4K ULTRA HD (7/26) Via MVD Entertainment Group

Italian horror master Dario Argento elevates the giallo genre to new heights with 1982's TENEBRAE, a darkly humorous and notoriously grisly murder-mystery that many consider to be one of his finest works.

Now, Synapse Films, in conjunction with Arrow Video, makes this gory suspense classic available for the first time on UHD in a new 4K restoration for TENEBRAE's 40th anniversary!

American mystery author Peter Neal (Anthony Franciosa, Death Wish II) comes to Rome to promote his newest novel, Tenebrae. A razor-wielding psychopath is on the loose, taunting Neal and murdering those around him in gruesome fashion just like the character in his novel. As the mystery surrounding the killings spirals out of control, Neal investigates the crimes on his own, leading to a mind-bending, genre-twisting conclusion that will leave you breathless!

Co-starring John Saxon (A Nightmare on Elm Street), Daria Nicolodi (Phenomena), John Steiner (Caligula) and featuring beautiful cinematography by Luciano Tovoli (Suspiria), this stunning all-new 4K restoration includes hours of extras and, for the first time ever, the alternate U.S. theatrical cut, Unsane.

Synapse Films presents Dario Argento's Tenebrae in a strictly limited, three-disc (2 UHD/1 BD) 6000-piece Limited Edition boxed set. One pressing only.
