yeah, if this is where prices are headed on 4K, and blu ray, I'm going to be moving on to streaming strictly on my Roku, the only reason I don't use it currently, is something is wrong with it in the last week, it's started going through batteries like crazy, I buy new good name brand batteries, and they die in like 5 days. And I get errors when I try to watch youtube, and it's just a pain to use anymore, I may have to get an external ROKU box, the USB thumbdrive one I have seems to be broke after only a year. And I may not even do that, I may just get a good outdoor antenna, and put up and just watch local channels. I get comet TV, and it's got horror movies all the time. But yeah, I used to buy arrow films for like $10 when they were a company in England only, not anymore though now that they are in the United States their movies seem to have tripled in price, and I don't mess with importing them or anything anymore, and all that having to buy a region free player.

I am going to pick up Suspiria, after the price on Amazon dropped in half almost. Why the hell they put it up originally for $60 I have no idea, but now it's not an insane price. I wonder too about other companies releasing 4k copies, I hope they do, but in most cases I will not buy new versions. Suspiria is special though. I think there are maybe 10 horror films I'd buy on 4K. That is unless the price on a 4K UHD disc is the same price as the blu ray, then of course I would naturally buy the 4k disc. I only have a few 4K disc, and I got those because they were the same or lower price than the blu ray. I have a 43 inch 4k tv though, and I do plan at some point getting a bigger one though. But then again, they are already talking 8K, so is there any point in any of this.

Once I am actively buying movies again, I'll be buying 4K combo packs where possible, to future-proof. I don't have the equipment yet, but here in Canada, most major-label releases are only a $5 difference for 4K/Blu combos over Blu/DVD combos, so why not. I already got Ant-Man and The Wasp that way because Disney Movie Club went to 4K/Blu combo on Marvel movies.

I would definitely hate to see UHD disappear, but in the past year nothing has been released on 4k that I want, Suspiria though is actually one film I think will look amazing on 4k, because of all the colors, I think HDR could really do magic on this film. There is another film I think would benefit from the 4k HDR, and that is The Whip and the Body by Mario Bava, that film is so gorgeous to look at, but the current blu ray, really kind of muted the colors, compared to the older DVD I had. Very beautiful film to look at in the original DVD, and would imagine a 4K of that one would benefit greatly from 4k HDR.

Fundi, there's no risk of 4K going away, you just have fringe tastes. Uptake of 4K TVs has been faster than HD and people want content that takes advantage, and the studios have no problem putting out 4K from new productions. Catalogue and cult stuff might not ever be a big thing in 4K for multiple reasons, but mainly economics. Making a 4K output that will be of acceptable quality pretty much requires access to the original negatives of a movie, and for the vast majority of porn and exploitation films, the masters no longer exist. For cases where they do exist, the cost of restoration is too high for a release to be profitable, so nobody will bother. This is why I say that maybe going back to higher prices for home media might be something that needs to be considered.

I would pay laserdisc prices for a good I repeat "GOOD" quality release of Deep Throat on 4K, I know the negatives exist for it, and they would have to restore the music to the original music, which was on the VCA DVD, but not on the Arrow DVD. Now there are not but a few movies I would pay $75 for on 4K, probably like 10 porn films, but when you get into other types of movies I would like many more, especially I like concert films. And there are many horror films I'd like on 4K, I see a few classics have already been released, but people keep saying in reviews, the release of Halloween 1978 has like a shimmering effect, which I have no idea what that is, but they say its not a good thing, I've seen many YouTube vids where people say that. I kind of hate to buy any 4k disc that have a problem, it's just annoying though. Suspiria is a must purchase now that it's dropped so much in price, plus the fact that Synapse always do good work. If any movie releasing company goes 4k on disc, I am glad it was synapse, because they basically never mess up with their releases.
