Rewatching this, I note (which is probably patently obvious) the accumulation in degradation that takes place as the story progresses. Emanuelle's liberal approach to sexuality, established in the opening scenes, is faced with a series of scenarious that threaten to challenge/undermine this. It seems plotlessly episodic and purposeless, but there's a sense of a liberated woman being confronted with progressively more degrading/challenging scenarios.

Also, this time around I'm not entirely convinced that Pedro's... erm, member... isn't a prosthetic of some sort. Look at the framing and the manner in which its connection to the horse's body is always hidden by the composition. (That said, I've never studied a horse's genitals that closely.)

Just watch the begining of La Bete (1975) & you'll be able to see a horse's member in detail.

Haha yeah I think Joe d'amato might have spoiled some couples nights if they were expecting the original Emmanuelle but if a couple would go see the original Emmanuelle I kind of doubt they'd be the kind of couple turned off by the stuff in Emanuelle in America lol. Emanuelle in America I don't think was trying really hard to "be something " other than a porn movie with beautiful scenery beautiful women and does it really take much more than that to sell movie tickets? I mean over 40 years later we are buying it on blu ray and pretending we are shocked by the sex in it.

These movies aint for everyone, but the soundtracks are probably the least interesting things about them! The soundtracks are awesome, btw.

Got my copy and rewatched it. Maybe I was drunk when I first watched it as I don't recall so much hardcore sex and the fake snuff scene being so long. Let's face it, the soundtrack is better than the movie, but it is certainly the most watchable of the black Emmanuelle films by a wide margin.

I finally bit the bullet and bought the blu-ray. As a first time viewing experience, it was definitely something that won't be forgotten. I still don't understand what D'Amato was trying to achieve with this film. It changes course so many times that I got whiplash by the end of it. Fair play to him though - it's a product of it's time that could've killed another director's career overnight.

Also, the D'Amato interview was a lot of fun. He seemed like a really sweet guy with a joyously fucked up imagination.

It's my experience that most dubs are somewhat different to the original dialogue. Often a direct translation requires more - or fewer - words and it wouldn't fit their mouth movements.
