  • Jose Ramon Larraz Set - Blood Hunger (Arrow Video)

One of Friday's announcements from an ad in Rue Morgue:

Looks like Edge of the Axe will get a solo release unless we in the UK get a bigger set with said title included, similar to the House releases.

I wonder, will Arrow be able to get Coming of Sin past the BBFC uncut now? It's nearly 20 years since the last submission to them. I've only seen that cut version, but I found it a bit underwhelming. I'll hold out for reviews as I have the BU Vampyres already, if the set sells out before street date I'll wait for individual releases. Whirlpool is the one definite title that I want to get.

I also hope that Coming gets a reversible sleeve with the Violation of the Bitch title because it's one of the all time great exploitation film titles outside of porn. 'She asked for it'...
I'm bitter, I'm twisted, James Joyce is fucking my sister.

Jared from Mondo Macabro mentioned at the Blu-ray.com forums that he thinks Arrow likely is going to do a second set Dedicated to his 80s movies consisting of Edge of the Axe, Black Candles, and Deadly Manor

Is that the first release of WHirlpool? I'm a big fan of the other two but I've never happened across a copy of Whirlpool...

I should mention that's really just speculation on my part. But I've heard rumors for a long time they also have DEADLY MANOR (which I believe is owned by the same person who own VAMPYRES so it would make some sense) and recently heard they acquired BLACK CANDLES (from someone who talks quite often with Bill from Code Red, so caveat emptor).

A few months back Dark Force Entertainment(ugh) mentioned that Code Red's Black Candles was OOP. So that tracks.

I definitely would like to see WHIRLPOOL. I've never seen it. I wonder if they might eventually include REST IN PIECES, a horror comedy he made around the same time as DEADLY MANOR and EDGE OF THE AXE.

NEW UK/US/CA TITLE: Blood Hunger: The Films of José Larraz (Blu-ray)

Spanish-born director José Ramí³n Larraz (Symptoms) finally receives his due with this collection of his work, the first of its kind, bringing together a fascinating cross-section of films from the first half of his lengthy cinematic career.

Pre-order in the UK via Arrow: http://bit.ly/2LsN7Mh
Pre-order in the US via DiabolikDVD: http://bit.ly/2Lt1gJj
                      Release dates: January 14

One of the most underrated and oft-neglected genre filmmakers of his generation, Spanish-born director José Ramí³n Larraz (Symptoms) finally receives his due with this collection of his work, the first of its kind, bringing together a fascinating cross-section of films from the first half of his lengthy cinematic career.

In Larraz's debut feature, the hitherto ultra-rare Whirlpool (1970), Vivian Neves stars as Tulia, a young model invited to a photographer's secluded country home for what purports to be a quiet weekend retreat - but soon transpires to be anything but. 1974's Vampyres - perhaps the best known and most widely-released of all José Larraz's films - sees a duo of blood hungry female vampires prowling the British countryside, from where they lure unsuspecting male motorists back to their imposing, dilapidated mansion for draining... in more ways than one. Meanwhile, in 1978's The Coming of Sin (La Visita del Vicio, in its native Spanish), a young gypsy girl experiences a violent sexual awakening as her dreams of a naked young man on horseback become reality.

By turns terrifying, titillating, artful and scandalous, these three films collected here - all newly restored from original film elements, with Whirlpool and The Coming of Sin making their Blu-ray world premieres - collectively offer film fans a unique perspective on the fascinating, highly-varied career of one of the horror genre's most overlooked auteurs.

Along with Deviation, Scream and Die aka The House That Vanished, would have been a good fit with Whirlpool.

Ultimate box 1 for me would be WHIRLPOOL, DEVIATION, HOUSE THAT VANISHED & MUETRE INCIERTA but I never dreamed we'd get that lucky.

Sorry Arrow, no way this should cost me $75 for 3 movies.
