I like it! I hope that's the cover they use for the Blu.

Diabolik DVD has this up for pre-order now!

Cannibal Holocaust (Grindhouse Releasing 3 Disc Blu-Ray / CD All Region Combo) The most controversial movie ever made has finally arrived on DVD! Banned and heavily censored throughout the world, here is a film that surpasses its reputation as a shotgun blast to the senses. CANNIBAL HOLOCAUST presents the "found footage" of four documentary filmmakers who experience brutal death at the hands of a savage South American tribe of flesh-eaters. This footage is so intense, so graphic and so unflinching in its realism that the director and producer of CANNIBAL HOLOCAUST were arrested upon its original release and the film seized.

Ruggero Deodato's notorious 1979 film begins with the expedition of NYU anthropology professor Harold Monroe (Robert Kerman -- EATEN ALIVE, CANNIBAL FEROX, SPIDER-MAN). Professor Monroe's search for the missing documentary film crew leads him into the dangerous ?Green Inferno,? an untamed Amazon jungle populated by rival primitive tribes and wild animals. In the tribal village of the Yanomamos, he finds the devoured, skeletal remains of the American filmmakers along with the footage shot by the ill-fated crew.

When Professor Monroe screens the documentary footage for a cynical group of New York television network executives, a gruesome and disturbing story unfolds. Led by Alan Yates (Gabriel Yorke), the American film crew ruthlessly exploits "barbaric" tribal customs for the sake of sensationalism. With their cameras rolling, Yates and his crew then proceed to torture, rape, kill and burn their way through the jungle. The bloody tide turns as the natives rise up to take violent revenge on their tormentors.

Widely acknowledged as the uncredited inspiration for THE BLAIR WITCH PROJECT, CANNIBAL HOLOCAUST has been both praised and vilified for its portrait of savagery. Deodato's nihilistic masterwork critiques the implications of Mondo-style filmmaking, even as it explores the most disturbing extremes of cruelty and exploitation. Not for the weak of stomach, the film's horrifying power cannot be denied.

Will this contain the 10 secs from the Last Road to Hell sequence that's missing from all DVD versions (except the Dutch, Austrian & Scandinavian releases)?

I assume the UK shameless Blu-ray has the 10 missing secs (15 secs cut for 1 animal & replaced with reaction shots)?

One of the Other Surprises is a documentary about Italian Cannibal films which is produced by High Rising films (Scottish) who've made extras for Arrow Video releases as well as the excellent Slice and Dice: The Slasher Film Forever documentary (released by 88 Films in the UK).

Glad to see on the Diabolik listing that this also includes the Animal Cruelty Free Version. Hopefully this cut of the film will also be restored in HD.

Call me old sour pants but i hate that cover. Surely they must have reversible original poster art or something. The Dvd release had an awesome cover.

                    • The Cannibal Holocaust Blu-ray will have the SAME CUT VERSION as the DVD had. We'll have to wait until the Dutch, Austria & the Scandinavians release a TRUE UNCUT release.

Anyone know if the UK Shameless release (I've got the Blu-ray but not seen it yet) has got the FULL Last Road to Hell sequence?

                      • According to Grindhouse, the shorter "Last Road to Hell" is what's on the negative, so that's what they'll be using, and the longer version will be an extra. I can easily live with that. I can only assume that Grindhouse isn't pulling a Charles Band and is being honest about the content of the negative.

The animal cruelty version on the original Grindhouse DVD wasn't a separate cut, it just used seamless branching to skip over the animal scenes. Should be just as easy to do on Blu-Ray, no restoration needed.

The special cut that Deodato put together for the Shameless DVD, cutting some animal cruelty and obscuring the rest with alternate shots and digital effects, was just another one of his bullshit attempts to save face and claim he never wanted the animal cruelty included in the first place. Deodato never had a problem abusing animals or actors as long as he got the shots he wanted.

I'm assuming that the Shameless DVD/BD releases (got the BD but not watched it yet) include the complete Last Road to Hell sequence even if the missing 10 secs are inferior to the rest of the HD material like what Arrow Video are going to do with Mario Bava's original version of Rabid Dogs/Kidnapped (i.e. HD for scenes that appear in both versions & another source, non HD?, for the Mario Bava version only scenes).

Why didn't Grindhouse Releasing just do what Shameless have done with both Cannibal Holocaust & Four Flies on Grey Velvet?

No, the Shameless release includes the extended version of the 'Road to Hell' sequence as an extra feature. We can probably assume that the original negative conforms to the original director's cut of the movie, unless Deodato says otherwise there's no point adding those extra few seconds back into the main presentation using an SD source.

Where on the Shameless release (I have the Blu-ray) is the complete Last Road to Hell sequence?
