  • Umberto Lenzi's Eyeball Coming To Blu-ray

    Facebook's translator says:

"In breath berau bener quality of 4 K mastered this giallo comes in just a few weeks as a worldwide Blu-Ray Premiere!"

    Ha.

Either way, X-Rated confirmed it will be English friendly.
    Rock! Shock! Pop!

Agreed, I would not call it a good giallo, but I do enjoy it's crazy cast and scenarios.
For a 1975 production ( and a Lenzi flick ) it acquits itself quite admirably.

Damn those X rated's are pricey though!

Yeah, they are. As long as they release the more obscure stuff, like Giallo a Venezia, Two Males For Alexa and Eyeball, I'll gladly cough up the cash though. However, I'm not so sure about paying €35 for one of Fulci's more well known films, for instance.

I haven't found any screens of this, but word on bluray.com is that the English subs are only playable with the German dub. What the hell?!

Tis but true I'm afraid. Although saying that I think that this info was shared before the release. It's kind of odd watching it in German, not because I'm opposed to the German language but it just seems really odd watching an Italian film, set in Barcelona with German dub. Doesn't sit well with me, especially after watching all Giallo's in Italian and occasionally English.

They did the same with Watch me when I kill (Didn't buy that release). I guess its the only way X-rated could release these to an Engliah friendly market without infringing on licensing agreements. Of course this implies that someone else also has Eyeball.

Just announced for an August release from those folks @ 88 Films.

I'd love to see them drop the Howarth commentary that oddly appeared on the German Blu, it's awful ( at least the 40 min I suffered through before bailing ).

He's on the upcoming CASE OF THE SCORPION TAIL, and I notice he was on the BLOODSTAINED BUTTERFLY DVD I just watched last night. I think he's probably going to be offering commentary for every giallo released into the near future. Sorry.

Pre-order is up for the 88 release. No word on extras yet but I guess it'll have 'special packaging?'

Full specs/press release for the 88 disc.

88 Films Pays Tribute to the Late Great Umberto Lenzi with a Mega-Edition of his All-Time Terror Classic EYEBALL!
On general release from August 27th but shipping from the 88 Films website SOON is one of the grand guignol greats of giallo horror!
Long since regarded as an underrated name among the top tier Italian terror directors, Umberto Lenzi sadly left us just one year ago. As such, we at 88 Films have been preparing the ultimate edition of what is widely regarded as his most mesmerising horror hit - the 1975 stalk 'n' slash shocker EYEBALL! In this eerie bout of blood-splashed brilliance, a tour bus visiting some especially scenic Spanish resorts encounters a series of gruesome goings-on when one-by-one various tourists begin to lose their peepers to a red-gloved (yes, not a black-gloved!) slaughterer. It is difficult to predict how this rollercoaster ride of knife-play plasma-spilling fear will conclude but one thing is for sure… no one has seen EYEBALL looking better than in this amazing new 2k scan which comes as a packed (and we mean PACKED) limited special edition.

Never before seen in the UK, this spectacular 88 Films debut of EYEBALL will surely, finally, give Lenzi his standing as one of the finest fright-makers to ever step on a sanguine-caked movie set. Priced at the frankly astonishing bargain price of £15.99, EYEBALL is available for pre-order from 88 Films NOW and comes accompanied by a new 85 minute long documentary, ALL EYES ON LENZI: THE LIFE AND TIMES OF THE ITALIAN EXPLOITATION TITAN - which contains not just unseen Lenzi interview footage and an entire breakdown of the late, great exploitation-helmer's phenomenal celluloid musings but is an official selection of the SITGES INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL 2018! In addition, this outrageously enthusiastic package includes and additional chat with the actress Martine Brochard whose credits include the likes of THE VIOLENT PROFESSIONALS and many other greats of the Rome-based gore-game. As well as original trailers and an audio commentary from Justin Kerswell and the Hysteria Continues team, fans can look forward to an extensive booklet that charts and horror highs and bullet-ridden police ballets of the one and only Umberto Lenzi!

(Also live on the 88 Films site as of today are SURF NAZIS MUST DIE and the VHS-era masterpiece of creepy creature feature mayhem DEADTIME STORIES! Both attesting to the dedication that the label takes to resurrecting and revamping some of the most demanded exploitation and B-movie horror of yesteryear! We, as always, appreciate your support and encouragement!)

                      SPECIAL FEATURES

The only thing I can recall about this is the one asshole tourist who keeps scaring people with a rubber spider. Funny stuff.
Why would anybody watch a scum show like Videodrome? Why did you watch it, Max?

I'm surprised they've chosen to lavish such attention on this, given they've got far better - and I would imagine more marketable - titles in their catalogue.

i've not seen it. i like lenzi, but i find much of his output often gets poor reviews. what a good transfer does to his films when most historic reviews are of poorer presentations, i'm not sure. what fleshing-out and explaining or showing something about the film would do, i'm not sure, either - there's no trailer guarantee with an announcement, but you'll get the artwork. suspect this is one of 88's discs based upon a decent transfer appearing elsewhere and not being as friendly or accessible to the UK market - this had a recent good german disc, i think.

i'm only interested in the documentary on this. quite surprised people are lapping up a collector's edition quite so readily, given it's hardly guaranteed to be worth the money, given the patchy reaction to their discs and the price drops it all receives quite soon after release.

i would hope there was as much dislike of pre-ordering and direct-selling in films as there is at least a discussion of in the videogame world - in certain circles it's considered very counter-productive, destructive even, and it's getting an increasingly-negative treatment by the consumers. with films, we're going in the opposite direction, and there's too much assumption that people sticking with physical are doing it simply because of collectability, rather than the presentations, range of choice, individual tastes, personal convenience and so on.

It's a decent and entertaining film I rate it above a lot of other giallos at least it's not boring.
